Text of Dean's acceptance speech for the position of DNC Chair.
I love how he hammers home the basic principals again and again. That's what the Republicans have done sucessfully, that's a small portion of what Dean will do for the Democrats.

It was Democrats who pushed to create a Department of Homeland Security. It was Democrats who pushed to make our airlines safer. It is Democrats who are now working to make sure we close the remaining gaps in our security. It was Democrats who demanded reform of the intelligence community.

And it is Democrats who are pushing for a foreign policy that honestly deals with the threats of today, and the threats of tomorrow — like securing the nuclear materials around the world.

...

We believe that a good job is the foundation of a strong family, a strong community, and a strong country. We're going towork to create good high-paying jobs here in America, and we're going to keep good high paying jobs here in America.

And there is no reason for us to apologize for being willing to stand up for our belief that Americans who get up and go to work everyday have the right to join a union.

I'm likin' what I'm hearin' and I'm not surprised. Dean teaches me something everytime I listen to him.

In this speech he addresses, national security, the budget, health care, voting reform, social security, etc.

My favorite portion:

"It's going to take a lot of work. And I'm going to be asking a lot of all of you. It is not my chairmanship; it is ours."

Don't forget to catch the repeat on C-SPAN at about 6:20 Eastern time today. 5:20 Central.

1. He's so inspirational! Just remember, if the Republicans are making fun of
him, then he's definately the right choice.

Same thing with Michael Moore. They put him down, calling him an extremist. Now, do you honestly think that the neocons have OUR best interests in mind when they say that?

2. They fear Dean, make no mistake. I perused the conservative discussion
boards after Kerry won the nomination and they were saying how ignorant Dems were for "falling" for the bait. They said that we were "foolish" not to nominate Dean as he had such integrity blah, blah, blah.

Granted Kerry was a good nominee, and I wish to take nothing from him, but I KNOW they fear Dean, you are correct.

4. I watched him live on cspan on Sat. He said a lot of great things
and his delivery was great too! I was a real Deaniac back when he was running in the primaries, but I think he's learned a LOT since he first jumped into politics!

I really think he is going to do a great job as Chairman.

I'm using his concluding sentence as my sig line.

on edit: glad you mentioned he touched on election reform. Quite a few on DU don't seem to know that he did.

8. That speech shows exactly why Dean was the perfect man for the job.
And no one, no one, could have said it any better and laid it out any plainer than he did.
