1. My two dream candidates are: Clark and Gore. Unfortunately..
Edited on Sun Feb-27-05 08:55 AM by Kahuna
I fear that Gore has blown it forever. Too bad. What a magnificent president he would have been.

8. Maybe Gore as VP under Clark?
It would get Gore back in the White House, doing what he does best.

18. Kerry is better than ANY candidate in the country
Kerry almost overcame huge disadvantages of wartime incumbency and bad convention scheduling. Kerry is my choice to finish what was startedd in 2004.

19. Kerry is better than ANY candidate on the silly list
Kerry almost overcame huge disadvantages. No challenger has ever inseated a wartime incumbency. We will finish the job in 2008.
John Kerry will be our next president.

4. What about Bill Richardson?
Edited on Sun Feb-27-05 09:51 AM by Jonathan_Hoag
Governor, from a SW state, moderate.

Or Vilsack or Bayh for a Mid-Western flair.

You have not a single Governor in the poll. One General, one Congressman and the rest are Senators. Ok, one Veep but he's a has been. No chance he'll run again and get the nomination.

6. You used the words "flair" and "Bayh" in the same sentence.
Do not do this ever again if you want a passing grade in this course.

I personally know people who lapsed into comas and later died during Bayh keynote address a few years back.

13. So you're not a fan ...
but I think he would work much better than most of the people on the poll. As would the other two people I mentioned.

I mean Kucinich? Give me a break.

16. Bayh is weak
I agree that Evan Bayh is a bore. He never stands for anything except trying to be a centrist.

John Kerry is our best candidate for 2008. He's got passion, grit and will fight the Repugs to the death. I still got his back!

30. Nope, never
If Richardson ran, I couldn't vote for him. His blocking of the recount put him on my shit list forever.

5. Evan Bayh?
He's probably not a favorite here. But he is a red-state guy who has been both a governor and a senator. A lot of moderate Republicans might jump to his side if the GOP nominates another champion of the right wing.

14. Voted Edwards.
Probably the primary race nominees will include a list something like Kerry / Gore / Edwards / Clark / Biden / H. Clinton / Feingold / Boxer / Kucinich / B. Lincoln / M. Warriner / Richardson / Bayh. I've probably forgotten some names.

The media is slobbering over Hillary Clinton these days as the "inevitable" nominee.

She could surprise us all, but if neither Gore nor Kerry runs, I think the primary calendar and voting demographics favor Edwards and Bayh, with Feingold mounting a strong bid as more-left-of-the-others.

I don't see Hillary Clinton finishing higher than 4th in Iowa or 3rd in New Hampshire, and she probably shouldn't even bother with South Carolina.

17. Kerry almost overcame huge disadvantages
Kerry almost overcame huge disadvantage of wartime incumbency while Gore squandered his advantage of prosperous incumbency. Kerry is my choice over all of them.

28. At this point, I want Kerry
If he continues what he's been doing I really want him as the candidate - he's known, the swiftboat slimers have been largely discredited (and if Kerry intends to run - he needs to in the next 2 years eliminate the military service issue and make people aware that his 1972 protest was moderate, totally within the American system and was based on his concern for veterans and ending a war that was continuing just to save face)

I really think this whole thing is premature and I am prepared to be surprised by some candidate who fits the moment and is good.
