3. With all the recent hoopla

Why not use FDR? The Roosevelt Memorial has terrific quotations, especially the one engraved next to the statues of FDR and Fala. It couldn't hurt to remind people of the greatest president in American history once in a while.

6. I like this idea alot. It is kinda on the lines of what I was thinking of.

I was thinking of covering the float in quotes from all Dem throughout history. I didn't want to knock the Repukes (Dems are a minority in my town), but rather spotlight the Dems great leaders.

11. A couple of suggestions via quotations

Both of these are taken from the inscriptions at the FDR Memorial.

"We must scrupulously guard the civil rights and civil liberties of all citizens, whatever their background. We must remember that any oppression, any injustice, any hatred, is a wedge designed to attack our civilization."

I don't have my book of FDR speeches with me atm, but I do believe the above was said during WW2.

"They who seek to establish systems of government based the regimentation of all human beings by a handful of individual rulers...call this a new order. It is not new and it is not order."

This one is my favorite from the Memorial. It's on the wall behind the statutes of FDR and Fala. I want to say that this one comes from early 1941, either the State of the Union or a fireside chat.

Oh, I lied. I have one more :P.

"More than an end to war, we want an end to the beginnings of all wars."

5. how about just this one one standing on the float

and on the side a banner that reads: NO MORE MONEY FOR WAR !!!

7. How about this one?

One guy dressed in leather pants and suspenders, in a Bush mask, wielding a whip. At his feet and whimpering, various people - young, old, soldiers, various races, a guy in an overturned wheelchair...you get the picture. Every once in a while he steps to the side of the float, where an "oil derrick" (water fountain with black-dyed water) is continually pumping, and he "oils his leather." And with a "Mission Accomplished" banner at the top of the float.
