Here in Ann Arbor, Michigan, a fairly liberal, fairly safe place, the local party wants to hire people to go door to door, doing cold calls for a campaign to.....

Elect Democrats to the House and Senate to impeach Bush? No

Any other political effort? No

This campaign is a futile effort to petition for a rise in the minimum wage.

This is in a state with the highest Official unemployment rate, let alone actual. Nobody's publicized business failures yet, to my knowledge, but I personally know of dozens in the past five years, and massive layoffs, mergers and moves out of state.

Furthermore, campaigners will not be in pairs, but go out in the night, in the dark, knocking on doors that aren't known to them.

I told the person who gave me this information that this was a dumb idea, that a smart woman would not put herself in such a risky position. HE assured me that this was a proven tactic and THEY NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEM WITH IT.

We are Doomed. The Democrats are brain-dead.

is a good idea that will increase turnout among people who will vote Democrat. Most canvasses have pairs in my experience.
