The DNC requested records from Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee under the Freedom of Information Act and. Huckabee declined, citing the high costs and that Democrats would probably want the money to go to education and health care rather than "wild fishing expeditions, while having the State workers point out that state law says only Arkansas residents can file such requests with state agencies.

The Democratic National Committee requested records on Governor Mike Huckabee from several state agencies, and the potential Republican presidential candidate called the research a fishing expedition.
At least eight state agencies received a Freedom of Information request from Shauna Daly of Washington for "any and all records" regarding Huckabee dating back to 1993, when he was lieutenant governor. A DNC spokeswoman confirmed that Daly had sent the letters to other states with potential Republican presidential candidates.
Huckabee said through his spokeswoman that he was flattered by the records request, but said fulfilling them would have cost the state thousands of dollars. He said "surely" the Democrats would want the money to go to education and health care rather than what he called the Democrats' "wild fishing expeditions."
The Freedom of Information Act requests were denied by the Arkansas agencies primarily because state law says only Arkansas residents can file such requests with state agencies.
