I may be slow in learning about this, but maybe some others are, too, so it bears repeating.
As we know, the Democratic leadership has been split into two camps, with the Democratic Leadership Council being the more centrist faction. The more progressive side is called the Campaign for America's Future. Some on this board might want to find out more, abd here is their site: http://www.ourfuture.org/

There are a number of alternatives to the DLC, depending on how you define "alternative." For example:

There are probably others as well. Or those which take up a particular aspect of the fight. For example, Media Matters does a superb job of monitoring and debunking the media, and letting people know. There are several others that get into policy analysis and formulation (Center for Progressive Politics or something similar?)

And so forth.

3. Can anyone discuss the relative positions of the larger camps?

I hear lots of acronyms, but don't know what sort of politics are behind them. When i go to their website, i see the current smorgasbord of issues. These tend to be 'pitched' to the 'mainstream', all controversial points smoothed over or put into code, and come out so vague that practically any politician could have said it - so i'm still left wondering where they're really at. And then there's the notorious gap between rhetoric and action.

What is the political struggle within the democratic party? The appearance i gather from this forum is that it is the DLC versus everybody else, with the primary difference being the relative valuations of people vs. corporations. ...To what degree do 'everybody else' agree? Or is it just a collection of issue organizations, among which none clearly emerge as an alternative center?
