Don't listen to the media's "Democrats MUST govern from the center" mantra

If we govern from the center it means keeping everything as it is. And that means losing the advantage and the momentum.

A Democratic Congress that is rigidly centrist will only last one term.

It must be center-left to have and enduring popularity.

1. Several progressive and popular issues the new congress must address

1)Electoral Reform/Campaign Finance reform: send a tough bill to Dubya.
Make him veto it. Then trumpet it over and over and over again that he did. Bring in a bill to abolish the Electoral College and establish Instant Runoff Voting for Congressional and Senatorial elections. Again, this will rally millions.

2)Put Single-Payer health care up for discussion. At least get it into play. Then use it to organize for '08.

3)A REAL Minimum Wage Increase, with no bullshit tax cuts for the rich.

4)A Plan to Get Out Of Iraq A.S.A.P.
