Democratic Party Brings Platform Meetings to Cleveland This Weekend
July 29, 2008

http://www.democrats.org/a/2008/07/democratic_part_12.php

The Democratic Party's Platform Drafting Committee will assemble in Cleveland, a city hurt by the failed policies of President Bush and John McCain, this weekend to hear from national and state experts and grassroots Americans as they draft the Party's national platform. The Democratic Platform will define the clear choice between the new ideas for national renewal of Barack Obama and the Republican policies of the past.

Highlights will include a Friday hearing with policy leaders and issue advocates and a Saturday roundtable on the economy and health care featuring Ohioans and regular Americans. The weekend events are part of a process that began three weeks ago with more than 1,300 meetings held in all 50 states to solicit input on the Party platform in advance of next month's Democratic National Convention in Denver.

* On Friday, August 1, the Committee will hold a National Platform Hearing from 2:00 - 7:00 PM, during which national experts will contribute to the Party's platform on a host of issues, including the economy, health care and energy.

* On Saturday, August 2, the Party will hold a "Listening to America Session" roundtable from 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM, during which regular Americans, including Ohioans and participants from the more than 1,300 community platform meetings, will discuss local economic and health care concerns with the committee members.

* Also on Saturday, the Platform Drafting Committee will meet from 2:00 - 6:00 PM to prepare an initial draft of the platform.

* On Sunday, August 3, the Platform Drafting Committee will continue drafting the platform from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM.

All events are open to the public and the media. Members of the press are encouraged to RSVP as soon as possible as space is limited. For more information, see press logistics below.

1. And Neil Diamond will be playing in Cleveland on Aug 3. He's a GREAT Democrat and
always laces his shows with 'librul' banter.

2. i'm watching some of it on tv right now
pretty impressive people ...it is refreshing to see the democratic leaders at the grassroots level. it gives me hope for the party. all we usually see are the same stale tired old faces in Congress, many of them, like Pelosi, who have earned our disappointment.

Maybe there's hope, eh?
