Would You Keep Lieberman In Exchange For 60 Senate Democrats?
Or would you rather expel him from the caucus and risk filibusters on issues like healthcare and Supreme Court appointments?

1. I'd take away all his chairmanships and let him decide...
...to leave the caucus or not.

Lieberman won't necessarily vote against a health care bill or to filibuster a Supreme Court nominee, regardless of whom he's caucusing with.

2. and what makes you think he'd side with the Dems now anyway?
He's proven one thing -- he's a treacherous bastard who doesn't have a problem choosing what is best for HIMSELF - all others be damned.

Kick his ass to the curb. Because it's the RIGHT thing to do.

3. I'd let him go.

He's been quite clear about holding his special status (keeping the Dem majority) over our heads for two years and I don't trust him at all.

With 59 seats you need one independent or Repub to join you and you're there. At least that way it's an honest fight and not just kowtowing to Holy Joe.

11. I agree
I agree. He uses the caucus to further his own greedy self rather than Progressive values. As long as he's allowed to hold this over our heads, he will. I'm inclined to kick him to the curb, but at the very least, he should be stripped of his chairmanship. Tell him that he'll be allowed to continue to work with us if he wishes, but that there ARE repercussions if you're going to betray those you claim to work with.

4. Look here is the deal....
Joe is bluffing , he has no choice but to caucus with the Dem's because if he doesn't there is going to be hell to pay in two years when his senate seat is up.

What he going to run as? His own self created party again ?

You think he wants to join the pubs in exile?

He tricked CT with the help of the pubs. He has shown his true colors and we will not get fooled again.

He needs to be kicked out that committee before he starts making trouble for the new president ... for the fist time in 8 years btw as bush never did anything Joe had an issue with..

10. Lieberman isn't up for re-election until 2012.
If it were up to me, Senators would have 4 year terms, but it's not up to me.

19. Yeah that kinda sucks, makes me kinda still wish that Obama
offered him some sort of position in his cabinet just so we could maybe get a real democrat in the office then.
Ah well.

5. One of the many reasons I am not a politician is that
I'm not willing to compromise on principles. Lieberman needs to go and the sooner the better. And he can shove his damned threats up his ass as far as I'm concerned. I think we will gain more by finally showing some backbone and unceremoniously booting his butt out the door than we will ever gain by keeping him around because we're afraid he might cause trouble. Throw the bum out! He makes me sick.

6. Take away his chair. Let him stay in the caucus if he wants. Cloture votes don't
get won or lost based on how many Dems, Repos, or Independents are in the Senate.

They get won or lost based on the vote. Having 60 Senators in the caucus wins nothing, only their actual votes cast mean anything.

7. No.
But I wouldn't totally kick him out of the caucus either. Just prevent him from getting any charmanships and threat him like a independent. And leave it up to him if wants to bolt and go repug afterwards.

12. Lieberman Must Go !
And he should take his little band of Lieberman Liberals with him.

Barrack Obama has shown us how to defeat these bullies
and its high time we Democrats, Progressives and Left leaning Independents
grow a spine and throw down on these black mailing bastards once and for all.

“You wanna get Capone? Here's how you get him. He pulls a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue!
That's the Chicago way, and that's how you get Capone! “

filibusters. (Collins, Snowe, Luger, etc)

As to keeping Joe. It's not a matter of throwing him out, it's a matter of him not being the Chairman of Homeland Security.

He's a lying, deceitful PoS who needs to have his toy taken away.

14. Lieberman
He is soooo Republican...It does not matter what he calls himself. His behavior and attitudes put him right in the Republican camp...So, I say lets call a spade a spade ,and kick his republican self out...Even if we don't get the 60 seats!

17. I agree,. . .unfortunately, Harry Reid has less of a spine than a jellyfish
Joementum will stay along with his chairmanship. Nothing will change and he'll be the mole in the caucus.

Welcome to DU, BTW.

20. If we're stuck with him, let's all remember
that every living organism (including the Senate) needs to excrete its waste. To that end (pun intended) some disposal device is required. Lieberman's machinations have demonstrated his most excellent suitability for this task.

22. Ultimately.....
.....if it'll help Obama's agenda get through, we can't help but acknowledge that we need him there to vote with us.

The instant he ceases to a necessity though he can go blow himself.
