Rallies to promote a "single payer health care system" were held across the state today. Here in Butte dozens of people gathered outside U.S. Senator Max Baucus' office to voice their support of a single payer system, where all citizens would be provided with taxpayer funded health insurance.
Advocates for the system called on Senator Baucus for support and to include the single payer system in healthcare legislation reform.
"People here want to convince him that it's very important that he include single payer in his talks, in his consideration," said Mary Kay Craig, a volunteer with Change is Coming. "However, he says it's too late, we don't think it's ever too late, lets not accept that it's quote, 'too late.'"
The rally also included testimonials and a guest appearance by "Fat Cat," who represents the current heath care industry. He was eventually "shoed" away.
Senator Max Baucus' office released this statement in response: "Senator Baucus and people advocating for a single payer system share the same goal: Providing quality, affordable health care to every American. And at the end of the day Senator Baucus is confident that the U-S Congress will pass and President Obama will sign into law, comprehensive, meaningful health care reform which will make this goal a reality."
