the truth
Heres the truth:

The ONLY way we are going to make the politicians listen to us
a.k.a. that small number of US citizens who care about/pay
attention to real problems and issues is as follows:

1. Pick a pol. Let us refer to him/her as "the
target" Not an easy target like Ensign or his ilk, but a
regular guy/gal who has every reason to expect he/she will get
reelected and is happily collecting campaign funds from all
the usual suspects.

2. Get him/her out of office. Find a legitimate democrat and
get him/her the nomination, and then the election. Focus
EVERYTHING on destroying the incumbent. There is a great line
Gary Oldman uses in The Professional when he is calling for
backup: "Send everyone." Forget the rest of the
contests, frankly. What is happening right now should be proof
enough that NOBODY will listen to Progressives unless they
HAVE to. Stands will be faked, lofty promises will be made,
heart warming photo ops will be staged, and in the end Tim
Geitner will still be in Government and Rahm will still be
hovering around O's ear like a fly.

3. Stir and repeat until the message gets across.

All the DUers, etc. who disagree are welcome to a really
unhappy and frustrating future where they will fill the roles
of the steerage passengers as the Titanic goes down and the
rich folk float away to be rescued.

What do you have to lose? Really?

If everyone had agreed to do something like this Ned Lamont
would be sitting where LIEberman is right now.

How hard is that to figure out?

1. You are half right. It all boils down to money really and the candidate
who is corporate friendly will get tons of corporate money thrown at him not only from PACs but the DNC, DCCC and DSCC. What those candidates need to challenge an incumbent is loads of money. I suggest that we identify progressive Democrats in each race and get the money to them that they need to mount a blitz of ads in their campaign so that he/she is seen every where by the voters of their district and state. In states with a low population like Wyoming, it will take out of state money to get this person seen, heard and elected in a primary.
