Wright killer found dead in cell
From BBC:
A member of an INLA gang which murdered LVF leader Billy Wright in the Maze Prison in 1997 has been found dead.

It is understood John Kenneway took his own life in his cell in Maghaberry Prison. He was pronounced dead at 1855 BST on Friday.

Last week, Kenneway was refused compassionate temporary release to attend the Christening of a grandchild.

The Prison Ombudsman has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Gosh, just before he gave testimony before the Wright inquiry.

2. 'Kennaway 'choked himself to death'
From the Belfast Telegraph:
INLA killer John Kennaway - one of the jail gang that killed LVF leader Billy Wright - is believed to have used an unusual method of strangulation to end his own life in Maghaberry Prison.

Prison sources said yesterday that initial examination of his cell in the Prison's Punishment and Segregation Unit on Friday evening suggested he had choked himself to death with a ligature.....

"Usually the method of asphyxiation in prison is via standing on a chair, placing the makeshift noose around the neck, turning round to face the cell door and then jumping from the chair or kicking it away," one Prison Service source said.

"Kennaway upon initial examination appeared to have been facing the ligature attachment point and leaning back when he went unconscious which is more an act of choking then hanging. Obviously a thorough investigation has to take place, but that was the initial impression of those who found him."
