Which Irish Writers Do You Prefer?

I've got a stack of things -- Yeats, Gerry Adams, even a little Joyce. And I love George Bernard Shaw.

And I'd point out that the Bronte sisters were of Irish descent.

What about the rest of you guys? What are you reading these days?

1. Ken Bruen

I have ready everything so far except for the one of the two co written american novels. I finished a series of book by Bartholomew Gill and John Brady. I am looking Declan Bruke books but I can't find any through our library so I am going to have to purchase them. I read all the John Harvey inspector Resnick series as well ( not Irish but good stuff) I am looking for suggestions as well- I am definitely a mystery/detective novel reader.

3. I guess this is a bit off topic

But if you like Resnick, you'll like Stuart Pawson's Charlie Priest series, and Reginald Hill's Dalziel and Pascoe novels. Great books. Ian Rankin's Rebus series is good too. I love British crime novels, and have read them to death, but Pawson and Hill are my faves, very closely followed by Resnick.
Harvey also has another series about a detective named Frank Elder which is pretty good.

4. Not an Irish writer, but good Irish mystery and history combination

Peter Tremayne's Sister Fidelma series, set in 7th century Ireland http://www.sisterfidelma.com/

For modern fiction, Roddy Doyle (and three of his books are also movies, starring Colm Meany)
