Batman to be killed off after 70 years

Does Robin kill Batman? Photo: WARNER BROS 'Batman RIP' will see "the end of Bruce Wayne as Batman", according to Grant Morrison.

There are rumours that Batman will suffer a gruesome end when his sidekick Robin goes over to "the dark side" and destroys him in a terrible betrayal.

Batman, alter ego of Bruce Wayne a wealthy industrialist, operates in the American Gotham City.

Others speculate that Wayne may either retire from his duties or be killed by a mystery villain known as the Black Glove.

I haven't read Batman in a while, but has there been any build-up for this, in any of the comics, in anyway? Because if they just pull this out of left field it'll be nothing but a return to the days of "darker, edgier" bullshit that ruled the late 80's and early 90's.

1. I'll believe it when they formally retire the character
Miller's Dark Knight was written as a capstone to the character and was later retconned into a proto-Elseworlds story when they realized "hey, we don't actually want him to retire..."

Besides, didn't they kill Superman back in 1992, when they were desperate to generate interest in him?

After the success of The Dark Knight film, I can't see any reason why they'd kill him off for real, even though the comics and films aren't exactly in the same universe.

2. I thought that it truly was meant to kill off Superman for good?
I am not the best at the history of comics (I've really only picked up an interest since graduating from HS), but I'd always thought they had only brought him back after seeing the reader reaction to his death.

It truly would be ballsy to kill him off given the popularity of the Nolan franchise, however.

3. Reading it at the time (and it was a long time ago!)...
It seemed pretty clear that they'd planned all along to bring him back, and about half a dozen different, simultaneous titles sprang up instantly in the months following his "death" to take advantage of the attenion.

Even Jerry Seinfeld, of all people, opined that the move to kill Supes "seems a bit desperate."

4. Well, like I said, I'm still not that familiar with the world of comics.
But that would make sense.

'Bruce Wayne Not Dead'

And they made the Black Glove his FATHER?! Where have I come across this sort of plotline before?...

On Edit: Alright, I read some more and it looks like it's just some psychotic trying to mess with his head.
