'The Rock' Just Doesn't Get Spiderman
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 11:06 PM by Kire
The Rock Says Maguire Ain't No Superhero

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (The Scorpion King, The Rundown, Walking Tall) says that he's unimpressed with the actors that studios have hired to play superheroes. Possibly courting the studios for a superhero role for himself, The Rock says in an interview with Playboy. "Men find an action hero believable if they say, 'Wow, I believe this guy can really kick some ass, mine included.' ... I loved Spider-Man, but I'm not too sure Tobey Maguire could kick a lot of people's asses."

uhhhh...wasn't the point of Spider-Man that Peter Parker was a 98 pound weakling who finally GETS TO kick some ass?

1. He missed with that one, but I tend to agree with him.
Kilmer as Batman could at least *look* the part.
The guys playing the X-Men did a fine job, but Wolverine wasn't nearly beefy enough.
Neither Daredevil nor Spiderman embody that "perfect physical specimen" body type.
So, it's really just a physique thing.

IMO, the Rock would make an excellent Nick Cage/Capt. America type.
Physically, he'd make an excellent Superman... if not a swarthy one. :D

2. The Rock would make a decent Bishop
or a pretty good Midnighter.

3. Yeah, but then you have to wonder...
if he'd WANT to play the Midnighter, considering the nature of his relationship with Apollo...

4. Whatever Rock
Spider-Man. Young, small, strong.

I'm not huge on Tobey Maguire but The Rock just don't get it. A guy his size would be great to play someone like Venom, but not Spiderman. It'd look ridiculous. How the hell would people look at Peter Parker and not be intimidated if he were a big guy?

I'll tell you how Tobey Maguire's spider man could kick people's asses. It's cause he has the proportional strength of a freaking spider!

Sheesh
