Civil War -running out of gas?

Is it just me, or is anyone else a little disappointed in Marvel Civil War? Granted, I'm not reading all the titles - only the Civil Ware dedicated title, the journalist themed series, and the Wolverine/X-men titles. I've read some of the others, but only at bookstores.

Are they gearing up for something really crazy? because so far, it's falling short of my expectations. I'm getting the feeling that this concept is going work better as a series of TPB collections in terms of reading it.

Am I wrong? Weigh in!

1. No idea...

I haven't kept up on anything current...I'm sad :( I should just bite the bullet and get some subscriptions...finding comic stores, is rough...there is one up in Joplin, MO, but its rather...sad.

2. SPOILERS (weeee!) I haven't kept up with many of the tie-ins myself.

But that's one of the things I'm enjoying about the mini series. With DC's Infinite Crisis series, I felt completely lost half the time. At least with CW, I feel like you're still getting a complete story without shelling out for the tie-ins.

I've also enjoyed the fact that I can't figure out where this is gong. The Thor clone killing Goliath threw me for a loop (Hell Thor being a clone threw me for a loop!) and it really shows the fanaticism some of the Pro-Registration characters are capable of. Though that might simply be convenient writing. I never read Iron Man before so I don't know if Tony is the type of man that would collect Thor's hair decades before just in case Thor needed cloning in the future for whatever reason. Iron Man's behavior reminds me alot of Batman's from IC where he became so paranoid of his fellow superheroes, that he felt obligated to keep tabs on them through his advanced spy system.

It would be interesting to see if Mr. Fantastic and Iron Man used heavy media propoganda similar to the way the current admin. does to help sway the public. Especially in defending the death of Goliath in the last issue and the use of super villians to go after the rebel heroes. Actions that are definitely not very super heroish.

Still, I like everything so far. Steve McNiven's pencil work is great (The best Travis Charest clone out there), the coloring is top notch and the writing is pretty good if you ignore some of the dialogue that doesn't seem to fit into some of the character's past personalities. I'm not sure where this is going but I think that's a good thing. They've successfully kept me interested in each issue and hopefully the next one won't be as late as the last!

3. I just read the latest New Avengers

and I'll admit that I didn't see any of that coming at all. Still, I feel like there's gotta be some amazing payoff for all this. Maybe I bought into the hype too much, but I really need to see some glimmer of how this is supposed to completely change the landscape of the Marvel Universe.

4. People are actually reading Civil War?

Really? There are people left reading comics who can't tell a stupid money-grabbing crossover when they see it? Moreover, there are people left reading comics who aren't heartily sick of Mark Millar ( If that man pitched Quesada the idea of Wolverine becoming a cross-dresser, Transvestite Wolverine would be on the shelves inside of six months)? I'll stick with Moon Knight and Warren Ellis' Batshit Avengers or whatever it's called, both of which are blessedly free of this gimmick.

actually constructive you wish to add? Take a freaking pill and go dump your negativity elsewhere. It serves no purpose here, except to demonstrate that you're capable of acting like an ass.

They're going to use supervillains to capture Cap's team! So much for the moral authority of the Pro-Registration side.

McNiven's art seems to be getting stronger with each issue.

9. Yeah, it seems to be getting more interesting

I'm finding that my favorite title is Frontline. The perspective of the reporters, plus the short stories and comparisons to previous wars in the back is really telling. It's probably the most provocative of the titles, and obviously is a commentary about what's happening today in America.

I just read Civil War #6 and the last 3 pages were absolutely stirring!

I loved seeing Cap outwit the genius squad of Tony and Reed. Now it's on to the royal rumble in the final issue.

It's even showing up in titles like Gaiman's Eternals - the latest issue had a neat perspective on the registration deal.

They don't seem particularly interested in registration.

That's been a really neat mini-series. I hope they get an ongoing book, although I doubt Gaiman would be interested in going on with it.

15. Well, boy was I wrong.

Talk about shake-ups. I'm really interested to see where they are going to go from here. I picked up Civil War: The Initiative and there's a hint that Cap isn't dead but in suspended animation at the facility in the Negative Zone. The new Omega Flight team looks interesting although I missed it when Alpha Flight got massacred.
