is there anyone out there
who is starting to date again? I have been divorced almost 3 years now and feel like I am ready to try the social scene again. The internet sure has changed things. I have met a guy who lives 3 hours west of me. We are meeting in a town that is about halfway for both of us. This is our second date. The distance seems to be complicating things. Already he is wanting to know when I will drive to his town...should I blame him? With the cost of gas should I expect him to offer the difference? We talk on the phone several times a week and he seems like a nice guy...
Is anyone else experiencing these problems?

1. no, sorry!
4.5 years with one date, just a couple of months single. I cut the date short, shuddering in revulsion, went home and updated my answering machine and call-screening procedures.

Haven't come close, thought about it, or really wanted to since then. I didn't really want to at the time; I was just trying to demonstrate some evidence of "getting over it."

2. some dating, have a sweet "widder" interested in me...
(note: a young one in widow terms: mid-40's - as am I). She'd like a deeper, committed relationship, but then, she's been on her own for 11 years (though through a sad event), has tasted the world, etc.

We have a great friendship, but I'm not ready to "settle down" again. It's not just her -- I don't know that I'd want to "settle down" with anyone, right now.

What's odd, is that all my life 'til now, I'm usually the one in her position -- pushing for commitment (like I did with my ex-wife, who, as it turned out, was incapable of commitment).

But I don't want to hurt anyone, either. But then again, I don't want to deceive anyone, and pretend to be "ready" for something when I'm not.

11. I started dating (socially) a couple months after our "official" split
although in reality my marriage was over years before the physical split happened, if you know what I mean. I had 4-5 social-type dates in the few months after the split, and actually ended up meeting somebody who I have been dating for several months, now.

The end of my 10-year marriage was one of the best things that happened to me. With some distance, I came to realize that a large part of my unhappiness came from trying to live up to the impossible expectations of my ex-wife, and rolling over completely for her in an attempt to keep her happy.

It's not quite a year since our separation, but I haven't felt this good in over a decade.

12. new to dating...
my ex-wife (lesbian) and I have been working on our friendship, and we are best of friends... she is already starting to date, but lesbian dating is a world of difference then straight dating I am finding out... I am just now entering that world. I bit wierded out by the "do's and don'ts" that apperently everyone else in the dating world knows.. that somehow I didn't learn in college! lol

can't people just be themselves without games?
