Good example of why nothing is accomplished in Washington
from the New Yorker - the story of the climate/energy bill

http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2010/10/11/101011fa_fact_lizza?currentPage=all

This whole system is totally disgusting. Campaign finance reform, I mean radical reform, is going to have to happen before there is any hope. As individuals, we will have to reform our own uses of and conservation of energy. Laws are not going to be passed before it is too late. It may already be too late.

1. You said it. If the flow of $$ is cut off, the shenanigans will stop.
Or am I dreaming?

How would candidates be funded, then?

They don't even pretend it doesn't happen any more. You got my bucks, you vote my way.

Something else has to happen first, because what you proposed there is the last thing your elected leaders will allow. That's their rice bowl you want to break.

3. The bill was deeply flawed anyway
Cap-and-trade is a self-defeating scheme, and a distraction from the only real hope we have at slowing carbon emissions
