COLUMBUS, Oh. -- A majority of Ohio voters are still supporters of Gov. Ted Strickland but that majority is getting a bit slimmer, according to the Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday.
Strickland's numbers dropped from a high of 61 percent just over three months ago to 56 percent today.
Strickland, a Democrat, has endorsed Sen. Hillary Clinton over Sen. Barack Obama for the Democratic Presidential nomination race and has campaigned with her during the past few days leading up to tonight's 9 p.m. Democratic debate at Cleveland State University's Wolstein Center.
The poll shows that Strickland's recent plan to take control of the state's K-12 education system away from the 19-member board of elected and appointed officials didn't sit well with those polled, as 70 percent of voters said they prefer the existing system.
While the education reform plan provoked the strongest negative reaction to recent Strickland proposals, voters also appeared not to like his plan to expand the state lottery by adding Keno and to create jobs by borrowing $1.7 billion.
