What if Congress is waiting until after the elections?

I know this is probably wishful thinking, but what if Congress is waiting until after Bush & Co. is out of office to bring charges against them? Could they be waiting for the following reasons:

• By convicting anyone now, Bush would just pardon them upon leaving office
  
• By starting impeachment now, it could leave a negative impression towards Democrats in some voter's minds and risk getting a Dem in the White House
  
• By waiting, they're letting the information about the nefarious activities of the administration trickle out as we move towards the election, giving them plenty of ammunition to convince voters they can't trust another Republican
  
• (on edit) By keeping their plans under wraps, they're avoiding a distracting confrontation with the Republicans now, to help get a Dem as president so their actions will be veto-proof
  

I mean, there HAS to be a reason nothing is being done - I just can't believe it's because the Democrats are all beholden to special interests or other distractions. Something seems odd that NOBODY is seriously trying to address all the evil that's happened over the last 7+ years....or am I living in a dream world, and the U.S. is following Rome into the dustbin of history??

2. blackmail springs immediately to mind

Kucinich can't be blackmailed--no matter what the right wing does, he'll just keep speaking out the truth, because he HAS risked it all before and lost it (political exile after his term as mayor--great loss of income as well) and come back. After you've done that,you tend not to be afraid. But Pelosi and others--perhaps they feel they don't want to lose what they have. At least that's my take on things.

And there is no extradition from there, so perhaps that's where he'll be heading. Impeachment is possible even after someone has left office (they become ineligible for pensions--big deal!, but there may be some other implications as well).

If Nixon had been impeached, it should have sent a message to the Cheneys and Roves of the world and perhaps we would not be in the position we are now. If we do not do something, this will happen again--the precedent has been set, and while we could never have imagined how horrible things could get and how much of what we value could be dismantled in so short a time, there could be even more horrendous surprises in store in a couple of decades if we do not impeach B/C.

6. Extradition treaties haven't stopped us during the last 8 years

from swooping in a snatching whoever we need to.
Granted that's a Bush tactic... but hey, what's good for goose : - )))

On the legitimate side of things, new extradition treaties can always be negotiated.
Political winds change and what's in Paraguay's interest today may be very different next year.
If Chimpy runs, there will be nowhere on this earth where he can hide.. unless it's with Osama.

8. Not a good idea

I can not think of a better way to immediately poison the political water well for a President Obama or Clinton (besides we very well Clinton will never touch it).

The GOP will get it's back up and use it as club to beat us for the 2 years leading to the 2010 elections.

A large part of the public will look at it as Democrat retribution for the Clinton impeachment (because God nows that is how the GOP will spin it, and they will have plenty of help with the main stream media).

We have to face cold hard political facts that just as a large majority of GOP type supporters and voters believe fiercely that Clinton got off scott free, so will Bush.

It is just a fact.

They can't file any other charges, and once bushco is out of office it becomes irrelevant.

They gave him their duties and powers. They also covered for him and refused to impeach while he did more criminal acts against us and foreign countries.
