Question about Spanish punctuation...

I've just recently gotten back in contact with a Mexican girl friend I know from a few years back, and in her messages to me, she ends almost every sentence with an exclamation point. So, I'm wondering, are exclamation points used more widely in Spanish than in English, and this apparent excitement is just some Spanish creeping into her English, or is she probably just one of those "excited" people when she writes?

I'm just asking because it's kind of cute. ;-)
