What shall I do with a Toyota Camry stalling?

It is a 1998 model and in the past years, since I passed into semi retirement, I don't drive it much, and then, mostly for short drives.

It started last year, and a couple of days ago, too: It starts fine in the cold morning. Then I drive it perhaps 5 miles and it sits for about an hour. Thus, the engine stays warm. Then, when I drive it again, I can see the RPM dropping and it slows down. Last year, I stopped, turned the engine off and then restarted it. Thankfully, the traffic was light. Earlier this week, again, it started slowing down but then regained power. I took it to the dealer/mechanic last year who tested everything and could not find anything wrong.

I am scared that something like that could happen in the freeway, or in the middle of an intersection.

It probably is time for lube and oil change.

It reminds me too much of the 1980 Ford Mustang that I had by then without even an automatic choke. Again, no problem starting in a cold morning driving to work, perhaps 5 miles. Than taking it to another building for a short visit of another office and then I could not start it. It had to really cool down for me to be able to start. This was before the Internet and message boards, but a friend of mine found out that, yes, this "happened" with that particular model.

Oil and filter would have nothing to do with it, unless it was TERRIBLY low on oil and seizing up - pretty unlikely.

You never actually mentioned an instance where it stalled, just rpm's and speed dropping.

Have a mechanic, or someone mechanically intelligent to take it for an extended test drive - or even let the mechanic drive it for a while.

sometimes the best diagnostic method is to just DRIVE the vehicle - "testing everything" obviously DOESN'T check everything

2. Try this first

add a $2.00 can of dry gas to the gas tank and see what happens. Can't hurt, cheap and may fix it.
