Chevrolet announces Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition, new Z07 package

This morning, Chevrolet took the wraps off of its latest limited-edition Corvette, this time based on the track-ready Z06 model. The 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition, which the automaker says is a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the model’s first outing at Le Mans, includes the carbon ceramic brakes seen on the exotic Corvette ZR1.
More than just an appearance package, the Carbon Limited Edition’s biggest mechanical draw is the Brembo brake set, which comes with unique dark gray metallic calipers. Those brakes will help stop a special set of black alloy wheels (19 inches up front, 20 inches out back) wrapped in Michelin PS2 tires. The Carbon Limited Edition will also include the Corvette’s Magnetic Selective Ride Control, marking the first time that the adjustable suspension package will be available on the Z06.
“For track use, the Z06 Carbon is the best balanced Corvette yet. It combines the lightweight and naturally-aspirated Z06 engine with the road-holding and braking of the ZR1,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette Chief Engineer, in a statement released to the media. “For technical tracks like Laguna Seca, the Z06 Carbon could shave up to three seconds off the Z06 lap time.”
The Z06 Carbon will be offered in two colors, Inferno Orange and a special Supersonic Blue (pictured). It adds a ZR1-style front spoiler, black headlamps and mirrors, carbon fiber rocker panels and a carbon fiber raised hood, as well as a “carbon pattern” engine cover. The carbon fiber goodies reduce weight, Chevrolet says, although the automaker failed to specify an exact figure.
Since the Z06 Carbon is aimed at closed course track users, it comes with “Euro-styled” racing numbers that buyers can install on the sides of the doors.
Inside, the dark leather and suede seats gain blue or orange stitching to match the exterior, a unique steering wheel emblem, sill plates and Carbon Limited Edition-logo headrest embroidery. Suede also graces the steering wheel and shifter in addition to the seat inserts.
The Z06 Carbon Limited Edition will go on sale late summer as a 2011 model. Like all Z06 models, the Carbon Limited Editions will all be coupes.
Z07, carbon fiber packages added to Z07 for 2011
Chevrolet also confirmed a handful of new upgrades package for the standard 2011 Z06. A new Z07 package will add most of the mechanical upgrades included on the Carbon Limited Edition, including the carbon ceramic brakes, a unique set of 20-inch gray alloy wheels and chassis and cooling upgrades.
Cosmetically, the standard 2011 Z06 will also offer a CFZ carbon fiber package, which will include black carbon fiber rockers, splitter and roof panel with a full-width body color spoiler. The package will be available on both Z06 and Z07 Corvettes.
Both packages will debut with the standard 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in late summer, according to General Motors.
