Gran Turismo Omologato. Ferrari’s been adding that tag, in its diminutive GTO, to roadgoing sports cars homologated for racing since last century’s 1962 250 GTO. In the case of the upcoming 599 GTO — caught recently in pre-launch testing on Germany’s Nürburgring — it’s the same Ferrari 599XX gentleman-racer kit set up for the street. That means a 700-hp Enzo V12, redlining at 9,000 rpm, and remapped shift software for blinding 60 millisecond swaps. The vitals are still just speculated, though 0-60 in around three seconds and a top speed well north of 200 are quite likely indeed. 0-60’s man on the scene says Felipe Massa’s engineer was on hand to help mold the latest GTO into proper prancing-horse spec.
