... of Sir Alec Issigonis' original Mini. That Mini was the first transverse-mounted front-engined front-wheel-drive design; it was the ur-small car that presaged Corolla, Civic, Golf and a host of others.

6. I believe in the 60's there was an Austin Mini Countryman

with a longer wheelbase (by about 10 inches). It was a slightly larger version of the Mini, but supposedly a terrible car to drive that didn't handle as well as a real Mini.

9. The Diesel Mini is called the Mini D in Europe I believe

BMW doesn't have plans to bring it here at the moment.

Also there has recently been a launch of a US-based Mini enthusiast magazine. I subscribed and recently received the first issue. Nice and glossy but the content is a bit amateurish. I'll have to dig up the title.
