What is your dream car?

Mine is, of course, the Audi RS6. 0-60 in 4.5 seconds for a mid-sized sedan is nice. 450 HP from a V8 bi-turbo engine gets it there.

1. The car I really want isn't made

but it would have to be somewhat utitliarian, good hp (over 300) and amenities, hybrid and have character. So maybe a cross of Infiniti FX45, a Prius, and an old Saab.

I can't remember the model, but it has about 800,000 miles on it. Mostly highway, but damn, that's a well built car. Original engine lasted to 750,000 miles before it needed to be rebuilt.

There's a spirit to Saabs that you only find in a few other cars. That Saab 96, with the gear shift on the steering column gave me the greatest driving fun I've ever had. Those Saabs have incredible road-handling capability. They seem to love mountain roads.

Unless you're going to put a dump truck clutch and army tank treads as tires with a semi-tractor transmission, any car made today will not be able to handle even close to 2000 HP.

No tires would be able to handle that. Stock cars don't even get 1000 HP.

Plus, that kind of engine would have to be so heavy, it wouldn't be worth it.

20. What kind of transmission are you going to use?

And how much do you plan on spending on a race car clutch and a upgraded differential? What kind of tires are you going to use?

Are you aware that you could buy another brand new Mustang for the price that this project will cost? Needless to say, even if you somehow miraculously manage the miracle of getting say 1500 HP, how long do you think this engine will last? Is it worth it to spend over $30,000 to upgrade a car that already costs $30,000 so you can't even drive it on the street? Even to get it to 1,500 HP, you will have to take out the power steering and air conditioning to make room for all the modifications and the larger engine. You'll be lucky if the chassis will be able to handle over 1000 HP. Unless you really have $60,000 and a couple months of time to throw away, I wouldn't consider this project doable. Especially because your engine will be shit after a month of even 1500 HP.

twin turbo chargers for one are a big help, i have seen a few 2,000HP+ Iroc-Z's and a friend got a 79 Mustang GT up to 2,500HP

...that will take all that power? How are you going to prevent the engine from overheating? What is your target bore, stroke and compression ratio measurments?

If I were you, I'd get a used Mustang. VERY used. Why buy a new 2005 when you're going to have to replace the entire drivetrain, exhaust system, and induction system, not to mention a major overhaul on the fuel delivery system.

24. I'm driving my dream car, a 2001 Saleen Mustang convertible.

My son bought it just before he went into the Marines, then realized he was in over his head (insurance for a 19-year-old with his driving record was going to be $650 a month!)

Since the loan is in my name, I sold my car and took this one and I LOVE it! It's not supercharged, which is fine, since I don't need that kind of power. I got a wind guard that fits under the light bar and a soft tonneau that covers the back seat and makes it look like a roadster.

I teach math at a community college and if nothing else, it helps my "cool" factor with my students. ;) And yes, it's a real Saleen, not a kit.

Of course, I "inherited" the payments, too, but my insurance is much cheaper than his would have been. ;)

And I let him drive it when he comes home so he has the best of both worlds as far as the car is concerned. He made me take the "My son is a U.S. Marine" sticker off the back, though. :D He doesn't want me to put any stickers on it but in order to maintain my sanity, I must have the "Slash-W" and "I DID NOT VOTE 4 BUSH" stickers on the back.

Yes, the Carrera GT is nice, but I have no hope of ever owning one, unless that damn lotto ticket comes in. Saving up the pennies for the Turbo.

A Dodge Lancer. Great car! My friend got her passenger door walloped somehow and was just sick about it.

Incredibly, I found one at Pick-Your-Part! (Big DIY junkyard here in Los Angeles. This was a few years ago.) And long as I was there, I pulled off some other hard-to-find interior trim items, etc., that she could use.

My dream car? Probably a `66 Corvette roadster, a big-block with sidepipes. Most people prefer the '65 or '67, but the '66 just resonates with me, for some reason.

When I was a wee lad, a local car lot had a '66 Corvette roadster sitting on the lot with the "race-only" L-88 427 engine. It had an aircraft-sized harness for the driver's seat, no radio, no heater...heck, I'm not even sure it had the convertible top. The thing sounded like a WWII fighter plane when it cranked up, and idled like a can full of rocks.
