It's time again to recognize indigenous people The Annual Sunrise Ceremony at Alcatraz will be taking place on Monday October 9th, 2006 6-8am PST on Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay. In solidarity with Indigenous people around the globe, KPFA will broadcast this event live. If you'd like to listen, tune in to 94.1 FM or log on to world wide web at kpfa.org. There will be traditional Pomo and Aztec Dancers, Drummers and Singers, Native Elders and Youth. This year the Dock has changed to pier number 33. Hasta La Victoria Siempre.

This year's ceremony was different in that it usually happens on Alcatraz Island, but the ferry service is being picketed and organizers wouldn't cross the picket line.

Native Americans Join Protest Against Hornblower

(BCN) SAN FRANCISCO Members of the Inland Boatman’s Union and the Masters, Mates and Pilots Union were proud to celebrate with indigenous people this Columbus Day as members of the International Indian Treaty Council refused to cross the picket line in solidarity with the workers, Rudy Evenson, spokesman for the National Park Service said.
