Tribute for Code Talkers debated

Six decades after World War II ended, state lawmakers want to honor the Navajo Marines who used their language to create secret codes to foil Japanese enemies.

However, some people say proposals to fund a Navajo Code Talkers state monument and recommend a commemorative stamp marginalize similar wartime contributions from other tribes.

"We feel our tribe is also entitled to recognition of our Code Talkers," said Philip Quochytewa, a member of the Hopi Tribe who told a Senate committee recently that his uncle was a Code Talker......

My father was in the Marine Corps during WWII and he told me all about the Code Talkers. He said they had the enemy completely baffled and it was because of them that the war able to end sooner he believed.

He had great respect for them, I know that much. The U.S. Mint sells a "Code Talker" medal for not much just FYI (like $5 or so).

Thank you for the story. It brought back some good memories for me and YES they sure do deserve "recognition" and also they must be properly incorporated into history, not overlooked after the "recognition" is over with! :)

2. Navajo Code Talkers

:hi: on this subject again. I just saw a film made about this from Native American films.

The film was made in 1983 and there were some of the Code Talkers in the film that were still living at that time. One of them had been at some big battles and he ended up returning home and was told by his father that he should receive a good piece of land and a place to live for what he had done.

Sadly, this man said that he had the same place to live still on the Navajo reservation and that it was in a camper shell on top of his truck. :mad:

When I ask will things ever change? Is it too late now to honor these men that are likely all deceased today?
