No charges against Paul Bernardo after he confesses to multiple rapes

TORONTO -- Police are not laying charges against Paul Bernardo, despite his confession to a number of unsolved sexual assaults.


The convicted schoolgirl killer came forward late last year with a list of rapes he claims to have committed.

Toronto police spokesman Mark Pugash says investigators reviewed the evidence and decided not pursue charges at this time.

Bernardo was jailed indefinitely in 1995 for the rape and torture deaths of Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy and 14 other rapes.

Police say Bernardo's lawyer came forward last October with information about additional rapes Bernardo claimed to have committed in the Toronto area...
