The Amityville mass murderer, Ronnie DeFeo,
was on “Inside Edition” last week, Thursday, I think. He’s supposed to be on some show on A&E today (Monday), if anybody's interested.

DeFeo said on "Inside Edition" that he killed his father, but his sister Dawn killed the rest of the family, and then he killed her.

What you usually hear is that Ronnie killed all of the family.

A detective who’d worked on the case said DeFeo didn’t have a conscience and you couldn’t believe anything DeFeo said.

I think DeFeo is guilty as Cain, but IIRC, the family members were found in their beds. What happened? Surely they didn’t just lie there and wait to be shot. Anybody know?

1. I have heard this before
DeFeo has claimed that his sister killed the rest of the family for some time. I think he killed them all, but I'm not sure. I would have to see what evidence his lawyer presented to try to prove it.

I don't know what to believe. I'd have to see the crime scene photos to maybe figure it out. It would have been easy to fake the scene though, everyone lying face down in their beds? Seems staged to me...??

3. I seem to recall he used a shotgun
I would think that some of the family members would have heard something.

4. I saw something last night on A & E of this nut
although I truly believe he was victimized by an abusive father and, to a lesser extent, mother.

DeFeo says that he and his sister, Dawn, went into the parents' bedroom that night in 1974 and the sister wanted him to shoot the parents. The father awoke and DeFeo, in fear for his life, shot the father and then shot the mother because she had a gun within easy reach, and he feared she would kill him.

He left his sister Dawn, still alive, in the house and went for a drive after he shot his parents. He claims that, when he arrived back at the house after the long drive, his sister and two brothers were dead, killed by Dawn.

Then something about how he accidentally shot Dawn. Not clear on that point.

A friend of DeFeo's said that the sister Dawn was violent and screwed up, too, because of the abuse she had suffered at the parents' hands, especially the father.

What a mess. The shrink looked nervous sitting across from DeFeo in the jail.
