http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=dr+cornbleet&btnG=Google+Search
this story seems to be picked up in a lot of places. this man's wife teachers at my kid's school. she is a really wonderful person. this is a horrible tragedy.
but i have a question for you folks.
in the murder fiction world, multiple stab wounds is associated with close relationships and passions, lovers and mothers, ya know. is this true in the real world? i hate to think that this poor woman will have to deal with something like this on top of everything.
i do find it odd that he did not employ an assistant of any kind. maybe he didn't want anyone watching him. he could afford it, i'm sure. in all the times i have been to the doctor, which is many, many, i have only seen this once.
opinions?

1. I've read that cops always look at multiple stab wounds
as a sign that the victim was probably murdered by someone s/he knew. That's probably true much of the time (& certainly true in the many true crime books I've read) but I just don't see how cops can make a blanket statement that it's true all of the time. The Tate murders disprove the theory right there.

In a secure building where a pass is required to enter & there's video (assuming it's working) I would think the cops would find the killer pretty quickly.

As far as the doc working alone; I find that really weird. I wonder if he semi-retired years ago & took so few patients he didn't need an assistant?

Please let us know when/if the case is resolved.

2. the video sucks apparently
they were unable to identify a suspicious person that was on the tapes, so....
he was not semi-retired. he put in a full day every day.

3. Not to go off topic too much,
but could he had a full day, but only one patient an hour or something?

True story. My dentist & his wife divorced. She was entitled to half of his earnings for X number of years. He decided to show her (very bitter divorce & she had cheated on him) so he takes maybe one patient every 90 minutes. He & the hygientist & the receptionist took 2 hours lunches. The women played tennis & he went on a bike ride. Half of a very small income was even less.

5. i'm sure my ex thought of that
he moved to texas from illinois, just because he knew it would be hard for me to check up on his income. it worked pretty well for him. poor guy, he didn't go broke until our kid was grown.

4. Stabbing
is an up-close-and-personal type of crime. Of course, it can happen even if there was no prior relationship between the victim and perp, but usually there is a past between them.

Thanks for sharing this.

6. it does seem like the hard way to do it.
maybe it was a junkie that went nuts on him. but i gotta think the conventional wisdom on this is usually correct. i mean, it takes so much steam, ya know? not a moment, but minutes. way different even than a clip full of bullets.
the chgo sun times gossip columnist reported that one of his patients told her that he kept a desk drawer full of cash that was well known to patients. as was the fact that he worked alone.
such a shame. he was the kind of guy that went to nyc after 9-11, and to nola after katrina. terrible loss.
i am so saddened to think of the impact this will have on his wife. she is also a terrific person, and the kind of teacher that nclb was designed to destroy. in fact, she was going to quit teaching this year, as she qualified for a pension. she wanted to go back to teaching at a teachers college. she was sickened by what she saw happening to the public schools.

7. looks like they have a suspect
surveillance camera was not so crappy after all-
in the first image, the suspected murderer strides in through the revolving door of 30 N. Michigan Ave., wearing a red baseball cap and a gray jacket. A black bag is slung over his back.

About an hour later, the same man emerges from an elevator in the building, wearing a black stocking cap and holding the jacket--turned out to expose its white lining--over his face and torso.

they say robbery was not the motive. a gossip columnist here speculated that it was, as the doc made no secret of where the cash was kept. 2 dozen stab wounds does not sound like a robbery.

i am so sad for his widow. she is such a sensitive and deeply good person. i do not know how she can recover from this.

8. Late teens to early 20, probably a patient
Typically that many stab wounds would be someone they knew. In my opinion, when a person knows someone personally, they tend to overkill because once they start, some remorse comes in to play and they keep going until that feeling turns to anger. I don't know if that makes sense.
