Is there a serial killer praying on young college men in the midwest?

I remember reading about this theory a few years ago and just thought about it again after watching a story about Wade Steffey on Greta Van-whatshername's show.

I remember, at the time, thinking maybe the common link was that these kids MIGHT be gay - which would explain the "separation from friends" after a night out drinking. As a gay man, I know, from the "coming out" experience, what it was like to be out alone, separated from friends, drinking and vulnerable.
