Where is she?
"Lake Township - Patty Porter entered her pregnant daughter's home through the unlocked sliding glass door. Her senses tingled. Everything felt wrong. "Hello!" she yelled, her voice cracking with worry. "Hello!" Then she heard tiny footsteps bounding down the stairs. Tiny, panicked footsteps.
Her 2-year-old grandson, Blake Davis, popped into the living room in search of the familiar voice. The little boy appeared disheveled, and Porter could smell his well-soiled diaper. She looked into that normally bubbly face and found nothing but an expressionless stare.
"Blakey," Porter asked, "where's Mommy?" "
That question remained unanswered Monday.
The search for 26-year-old Jessie Marie Davis - due to deliver a baby girl July 3 - began Friday after her mother reported her missing. Stark County sheriff's investigators suspect that something grim forced the nesting Davis out of her home along the pleasant, tree-lined street.
Deputies found the woman's mattress moved out of place and missing an ornate patterned comforter that resembled an Oriental rug. A toppled nightstand and lamp lay nearby on bleach-soaked carpet.
What happened? The primary clues may come from a pint-size witness.
"Mommy was crying," Blake told deputies. "Mommy broke the table . . . Mommy's in rug."
Officials offered no interpretation.
