John Walsh Irritates me.

For some reason, I feel the need to vent. John Walsh really annoys me. I find him a self-righteous jerk-off.

I was just watching the ep of American Justice about John List, and it ends with Walsh saying that List is an old bastard who will go to Hell, etc. Walsh claims he knows he will go to Hell. That sounds like some of my neighbors.

Now, I am in no way defending List. What he did was disgusting, cowardly, nutty, selfish, and sick. But that is another story. I am also glad they caught him. He had no right to take anyone's life under the misguided notion that they would "go to heaven."

So, Walsh knows who will go to Hell, and List knows who will go to Heaven. They sound like different sides of the same coin to me.

his parlaying of his son's brutal murder into a media career. I used to do a routine with Walsh hosting a Fox TV version of New Years Rockin' Eve- "I know that if my son Adam had not been murdered, our next guests would be at the top of his hit parade. Would you please welcome...Winger!"

The man makes me crazy. His pronouncement on List was more disgusting than his usual drivel, but I know what you mean:

The tough-guy talk like he is channeling a modern, up-to-date Sam Spade without the irony, cynicism, or romance.

3. He immediately flew into San Diego a few years ago

to "comfort" the parents of Danielle van Dam. It was a huge media scene and seemed designed as self-promotion. I guess he only shows up for the big profile kidnappings - cute, little white girls. (Not meant to demean the van Dam family, but just a statement.)

4. The Adam Walsh case is a tragedy, as are all murders

and violent crimes against people, just like dropping bombs on them, too. (also another story)

But, to me, it does seem that Walsh has transmogrified into a shameless publicity hound, mouthing nutty RW platitudes about "law and order" and generally whipping up the usual American paranoia about fellow Americans (not that we all should not use caution in our lives).

And it seems like he is using his precious son's death to do so. I don't doubt his grief over his son's death, and I agree that there are just some people who should not be loose out there, raping, molesting, killing, and altogether destroying lives and hearts.

But he still seems kind of schmucky to me.

guys like lucas and toole would learned something like to value life, their own first then maybe little adam never suffer what he did..i must admit i find john walsh not as exploitative as some who haven't suffered what walsh has....to lose a baby to a monster like toole, and to dimly perceive toole (and lucas) were trained to be exactly what they were, by a heartless culture that thought brutalising helpless kids is a-ok...well it isn't... even the bible says that, and rw xians claim the bible as their inspiration yet remain the worst advocates of heartlessness and intolerance (lotsa little lucas's and toole's being trained as we speak, i betcha)

in the way he describes sex offenders. I have noticed that he'll say the suspect is a "homosexual predator" or a "bisexual predator" but never says the person is a "heterosexual predator.' That irritates me because if he wasn't showing prejudice toward glbt people who WOULD say "heterosexual predator" if the situation warranted it. He never does though. That has always been in the back of my mind. It is almost as if he is subtly reinforcing stereotypes and prejudice toward glbt people.

I saw a biography profile on him once. It must the worst kind of loss to lose a child. Especially a young, defenseless one. I do give Walsh some credit. When his son was murdered there was no support for him, no network for finding missing children. No resources really. He was instrumental in establishing the national center for missing and exploited children. Definitely a good contribution. But he is clearly a bitter, angry man. Its too bad. I addition to exploiting his dead son, he probably doesn't spend much quality time with his other children. You would think that would be a priority. Like that lawyer woman on TV who's fiance was murdered (can't remember her name right now) he seems to be on on a mission to convict every suspect, regardless of whether they are guilty or not. Sad. What a way to live a life. I don't care how much money you have. To be steeped so deeply in anger and bitterness. I don't envy him.
