Is everyone on vacation? It's really hot on the east coast and it's so hot in Canada they have a fire warning in effect. Time to sit in the cool air conditioning and drink a cold beverage of your choice.

1. Hi Gogi.....
I think we're resting up for the Keith/Tucker double header tonight....LOL !

I just saw TC on MSNBC in a segment promoting his show and saying crap like ---> Dean is hurting the Dems and is probably "really a republican being used to destroy the dem party" and the DSM is "old news, so what"....Yeeeeeeeearggghhhhh! I'm already pissed about his show now..heh. MSNBC is promoting the hell out of it today too with a saturation of GOP talking points.

So, are you having a lovely summer so far? Hope to see you in the clubhouse tonight

:hi: :toast:

4. It's quiet all over DU.....
...but this is my first summer here, I guess business will pick up during the oppressive HOT months of July/August when folks are unlikely to leave their air conditioned comfy places :)

3. It's summer.
And I'm trying to cut down on the internet usage and get things done on the weekend and after work. This weekend I:

- Hung four birdhouses.
- Painted two plant stands and a flowerpot.
- Made a plant table out of an old sewing machine table bottom.
- Staked and fertilized the tomatoes, the cukes, and the peppers.
- Planted a hanging basket, a water plant, a climbing plant, and another tomato plant.
- Took out all the heavy trash (this is, like, large pieces of lumber and stuff, leftover from the deck repairs).

And mowed the lawn. This is more work than it sounds since I got a manual push mower last fall. I killed two gasoline powered moters in a row and in a fit of pique I got a push mower because "it doesn't have any parts to break." And, because small moters are responsible for 30% of the air pollution in our city. Bot of which are quite true, BUT, if you let the grass go two weeks, oh, MIGOD, it's a real effort to mow. This is the first year that I will have used the push mower for the entire year and we'll see if I live through it. Ugh! :hi:

5. Ah, mowing, veggie and flower gardening season.....
...definitely takes away from DU playtime :)

Oh, and baby birds too....we're letting the robins bond with their newly hatched babies...above our backyard door, so I'm stuck inside today :applause:

By the way, I rather mow than vaccum, the results are always so much more rewarding!

7. ...not if we can't use the deck til they fledge! Oh My.....
...and dealing with the neighbor's cat who loves to poo-pee in my gardens, along with coveting the fledglings and baby bunnies, then goes home and gets fatter on Fancy Feast. Grrrrrr.

Summer is hard work :banghead:

8. just as long as the cat isn't dining
at Mother Nature's amazing all-meat buffet.

Crispi, I can't believe you're trying to use a push mower on St. Augustine grass that hasn't been cut in two weeks. Wouldn't a machete be more appropriate? (For those of you who haven't been to Texas, St. Augustine stands up well to Texas heat and doesn't actually die in the dry spells unless it's dry for a loooong looong time, but the blades are thick and tough. It's not the sort of stuff you're just dying to take off your shoes and walk in.)

As for me, between hubby being out of town a lot this month and a work crunch I may well disappear altogether for a bit so don't be surprised. Y'all snark on Bowtie Boy for me, k?

9. Ha, my neighbor's cat
did that one year -- I made the mistake of putting a birdhouse on top of a large, easily-climbable fence post, then watched in horror as the black and white beast scaled it and put his paw inside the birdhouse and dragged out the nest!!!!

Needless to say, the new batch of birdhouses are well away from cat level.

And, yeah, I can't BELIEVE how fast the St. Augustine grows. I mean, I haven't watered it at ALL this year and it's a massively tough, healthy, and green lawn. So far I'm just considering my push mower as part of my exercise program, but who knows when I'm gonna get sick of it! :P

10. So there you are, hiding in the bushes!
I cut back courtesy of Mama Nature who sent strong thunderstorms my way all last week (note to myself: stop watching science programs about lightning!).
