Gizmo is gone.
Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 05:38 PM by CC
Gizmo died this afternoon. He went on his own and peacefully while I was holding him. I took him to the vets to be cremated so I can have his ashes. Guess he will get his own little flower garden. As much as I (we) will miss him, he was ready to go and it was best to let him. He was pretty miserable yesterday and today so I know he went willingly and is no longer miserable. Having read and heard so many sad stories about rescued ferrets and what they have gone through at least Gizmo has only ever had one home, where he was loved unconditionally and he was always happy, safe and secure. We were lucky to have him in out lives and he came to us at a very hard time. He and Pixel came to our home on Christmas Eve of 2000, they were our Christmas gifts to each other the first Christmas after Beau and then Poppy (my father-in-law) died. Terry refused to even have a tree up that year and Gizmo along with Pixel made it much easier on us and kept us laughing when it seemed impossible to laugh. I am not sure who benefited more, the ferrets or us but honestly I think it was us.

Thank you to all who have been there with moral support through this.

1. I'm so sorry to hear about Gizmo
It is so sad to lose one of our pets, they are like a family member. I don't post much, but I have followed your devotion to Gizmo, and all your ferrets. Gizmo was fortunate to have found you. May he rest in peace.

12. Thank you for your kind words and
welcome to the KOEB. The Giz was ready to go and the other ferrets are adjusting, the cats too.

5. My heart goes out to you
It is amazing how much our pets touch our lives. They see us through our toughest times, and only ask that we love them. Gizmo was blessed with a good home. I am sure that he loved you dearly. Our fur-babies seem to know when we are going through rough times, and they provide just what we need to make it through.

6. hugs to you, CC
after your report yesterday, I thought the end might be near. I'm glad it came relatively quickly and that he had such a nice human mama while he was here.

8. CC, I am so sorry to hear this news
:grouphug: Gizmo was loved and knew it. Some animals never know that kind of love. You gave him a good home and I know you will miss him.

9. Oh... CC. I am soooo sorry!
Little Gizmo was the defacto Clubhouse mascot.

Be happy in the knowledge of the time you got to spend with the little guy. I know it still hurts when I think of Blue, but I also smile at the memories of his wagging tail and "smiling" doggie lips.

CC, you're in my thoughts and prayers.

I think that in some way, Gizmo wound his way into all of our hearts. I wish there was more I could say, other than I understand.
From me, Oreo, and Binky: :grouphug:

13. Thank you everyone.

I am not as good as Rev at answering individual post with out repeating myself so am combining it into one for everyones sake. Thank you everyone for understanding, though if there was ever a group of people that would understand it is the KOEB with enough love and caring to share with our fur-babies.

I took a couple days to do nothing except help the other ferrets and the cats adjust. I also didn't realize how much time I was really spending with Gizmo but I am glad I did spend it. As far as ferrets go Pixel seems to still be looking for him so now she is getting extra attention. She has never lived without him so it makes sense she would notice the most. Puzzles still looks a bit but then he is the one that makes sure all ferrets are accounted for. The cats even miss him. Then again he didn't bite their toes.

Clark and Rev, as the most recent people to lose a loved companion I know it brings back some of your pain too and I wanted to let you both know I can already smile at the happy healthy Giz memories. I also know he was ready to go and it would of been selfish of me to try to hold on to him longer. I figure Blue and Roo are showing him around now and he has learned that there is somewhere dogs won't try to eat him so he can now check one out. Maybe Snap, as the newest fur member of the group should be the new mascot?

Again a big thank you to a group of very special people.
