13. The Schindlers' lawyer is now trying desperately to save face.

Faced with the actual facts, all he can do now is say that they were determined from "a dead body" and imply that the withdrawal of a feeding tube from someone with no real "life" to speak of is "barbaric" and compare it to killing a fully functional dog, or a "disabled person."

Please. She was not just "disabled." She was not just "brain damaged." SHE HAD NO REAL BRAIN LEFT.

Get over it. Sheesh.

I sat there grinding my teeth when he used the word disability; she was not disabled, moran, she was dead! Calling her disabled is so much inflammatory rhetoric. Just thinking of all the Medicaid money they spent keeping her empty shell alive while children on Medicaid went without sets my teeth on edge. :rant:

28. What kind of lawsuit are they considering?

They can't try him for murder or wrongful death, though I would'nt put it past them. Any further litigation could lay them open to a charge of using the courts to harrass Michael Schaivo. Perhaps this attorney has dreams of using the case as a basis for getting himself elected to public office. The question of what happened in those seventy minutes has already been answered and, if she died from a chemical imbalance caused by bulimia, there won't be any physical traces for the forensic pathologist to find. :shrug:

there would have been damage to her teeth?? But some bulimics use laxatives, too, I think, and maybe excessive use of those can also mess up your electrolytes. And if she'd been taking some diet supplement with too much ephedra, would that have shown up on toxicology tests of the time (assuming any were done 15 years ago)?

7. I just heard from my friend, who's also a big Keith Olbermann fan,

from his days on ESPN. She also heard that he's scheduled to be a regular "guest" on the Dan Patrick radio show on ESPN every Friday, starting in August. She's happy about this, but a bit surprised, since she said he really burned his bridges when he left ESPN. She was also wondering if this would affect "Countdown," and I told her that I knew exactly where to look to find out the answer, LOL! Thanks!:hi:

on edit: Talk about the rain! Yikes! It is currently raining so hard, as I write this, that it is a dull roar! Just to the North of where I live, the flooding is so bad that entire sections of highways have completely washed away! I expect to see the animals lining up, two by two, any minute now!

I told her that I thought that it would be extremely unlikely that he'd give up his MSNBC gig, since it's way too popular and he seems to have a great time doing it! So, you're right, everybody wins! Your friend can read any number of articles now, including his own blog, in which Keith says he burned his own bridges and completely blames himself and is sorry about it all. Also, which explain that he's doing this radio gig in addition to Countdown, not instead of it. Hurray!

Personally, I think Keith was justified in some of the things he said, but hey, that's me.

Look out for the rain! If you need one, you better build an ark!

22. Well, I sent her the articles that you posted (Thanks!)

But she had already looked it up, as soon as it was announced on Dan Patrick's show. She was asking me if I'd heard anything about "Countdown" since she's still at work. I'll check out the blog, in case she hasn't seen it yet. What surprised her were the inaccuracies in the first articles that she read, since she was able to find out what was really going on, just by doing a search, as soon as she heard the announcement.

And she agrees with you about what Keith had to say about ESPN, though I've only heard what he's had to say on "Countdown," not being a huge sports fan like she is.

And the previous reply asked me if there was an old man with a boat outside, LOL! I said that if he doesn't show up, I'd better start building one! Or, in a pinch, I can see if my car can float, like that taxi that made it all the way from Cuba!

25. Yes, that first USA Today article was not entirely on point.

It implied that Keith was going to have his own hour-long show, rather than joining Dan for an hour each Friday on his own four-hour-long show.

To get more of a background on Keith's feuds with ESPN, the best sources are the "The Big Show" book (written with Dan, but published immediately after he left ESPN), "ESPN: The Uncensored History" (which details a lot of Keith's problems with the network, and includes the unsavory comments he made about it as well as some both complimentary and unflattering behaviors he engaged in there), and his own "Mea culpa" column for Salon, written two years after the publication of the latter, in which he essentially says he's had a lot of therapy and realizes exactly how much of the problems he had with ESPN were his own fault and apologizes for doing the things the Uncensored History book describes that are unflattering (such as blaming his female colleague for the failure of their ESPN2 show and making her cry).

On the other hand, some things in that book make him look like a true champion, such as testifying for many female ESPN employees who claimed they were sexually harassed by the other men at the network and were usually not believed...at least not by anyone but Keith. I'm sure he still doesn't feel sticking up for them in their time of need was a "wrong" thing he did.

Also, if you Google around enough you can find out that as late as last August his bridges were still burned at ESPN because of remarks he had made about ABC hiring a certain pretty but emptyheaded woman to do Monday Night Football coverage. Personally, I think he was absolutely right and was proven such--she WAS an airhead and she got canned very quickly--but I guess they were still ticked off at him for what he said about that (he seems to like calling for people's resignations whenever he thinks they make dumb mistakes :-)), so they did not invite him to the reunion.

I hope a whole lot of that water (at least the part of it based on petty resentments) has gone under the bridge now. They--and he--would be foolish not to let bygones be bygones.

I've only heard the comments he's made on "Countdown," but, from what you say, I have even more respect for Keith than I already did!:-)

I just wish that you could talk to my friend, LOL! She's a kindred spirit, politically, and also a huge fan of both Keith and sports. When the KOEB group was started, I thought I could finally get her to register with DU, but she only has a computer at work and says she just doesn't have the time for it.:-(

...I accidently locked my laptop keypad...acckkkkkk...found out how important the keypad really is :dunce: In my panic, I could not figure out how to unlock it, couldn't find my owner's manual....whew, but I did!

Great Keith show tonight, though difficult to watch while my teeth were clenched. I may have to catch the Re-Count.

Lazy Days of summer, all DU is slow it seems, I wouldn't worry, at least two makes a party!
