116. The constant negativity gets tiresome sometimes. I posted some articles...

with the position that the coverage was overblown, but it's my personal experience, out in the real world, that this death hit people in a very profound way. I'm not really sure of all the reasons why, but it is universal from what I see. It gets tiresome being so constantly negative, and out of step with the rest of the country.

We forget that we here know so much more about what goes on. And that we're so much more tuned in. Regarding the TV coverage, for example. Most people don't watch cable TV all day. I think that's assumed by the networks. (If not, why would they air KO three times a night?) Why couldn't some here just click the TV off, or watch a non-news network?

Anyway, that was a magical moment at the end of the show.

I was crossing Scott Circle tonight when a couple of passers-by turned around to look at the sky. It had been raining at the same time the sun was shining, always an unusual event, and while it crossed my mind there might be a rainbow, I hadn't bothered to look. But when I did look, there was that amazing double rainbow, more beautiful and more intense an experience than any rainbow I'd ever seen.

It hadn't occurred to me that it was near the time of Tim Russert's memorial, but the rainbow did strike me as an omen...
