Hello KOEBers...

...Moratorium declared on snark tonight.

:grouphug: and for all our friends across the pond too.

See you all later, folks.

I'm hoping they're OK and are just exhausted from the day and cannot contact us, yet.

4. Actually, haven't tried them by phone because I figured that.
I emailed them.

But, they're probably watching the news, meeting at the local pub and making sure their kids and family and friends are all OK.

And, thanks for the hug.

54. E-mail is definitely the way to go.
It was the only way I could communicate with my family on the morning of 9/11. Even in upstate NY all the phone lines were completely overloaded. At least where I was at the time--a place highly populated with downstaters worried about family and friends close to the action.

It was amazing to see almost a replay of 9/11 in the streets as everyone walked home through London.

Did you notice that on this day, however, unlike 9/11, everyone knew where Tony was and he returned to London immediately? Who doesn't that remind you of?

58. Lord, I was even making excuses for the bliv on 9/11.
I remember a lot of people giving him grief for referring to the terrorists at first as "folks." I thought "Well, it's just a bad choice of words and it's the first thing that came out of his Texan mouth."

Mind you, I'm not excusing his presidency overall or anything remotely like that. But I don't hold his hiding out on 9/11 against him, or his poor choice of words on the day. There's too many other GOOD things that are REALLY worth holding against him.

56. Thanks for the images, Patsy.
I ran out of time and didn't have the chance to find any.

Yeah, well, I remember thinking on 9/11 that I was glad no one knew where you-know-who was because I didn't think they should, frankly.

Not that I bear any love for the man but I thought it was probably the better strategy. After all, we already can guess they were trying to hit the White House with that fourth plane. If you can't have a heart for you-know-who, have a heart for everyone around any place where it might have been known he was located that day.

His biggest mistake was not dropping his copy of "My Pet Goat" fast enough.

59. The occasional snark can be good.
But really, I don't hate even The Terrible Gray Suit with that shirt and tie. They add color to something that badly NEEDS color. Sorry, I can't snark on this combo...especially after what the guy who wrote "While America Slept" wore. Now HIM I'll snark on. That's a guy who badly needs a Queer Eye intervention...bad suit, bad shirt and bad tie, all of which DID NOT GO TOGETHER. And to top it all off, hair that looked like it was made from the pelt of a roadkill beaver. He needs Carson to tell him how to dress and Kyan to tell him how to use "product."

Next to him, Keith, even in the dreaded gray suit, looked like a paragon of taste and good grooming.

There, that was my snark for the night.

64. My favorite thing about Keith tonight
was how he brought the bliv's speech from last week back into this whole thing...so, what was that again about how we're fighting them in Iraq so we don't have to fight them on our streets at home?????

It doesn't look as if that plan worked for London.

Of course, this will only make bliv and Blair more determined. "See, they want us to stop and get out...they want to intimidate us into ending the war...but we won't..."

I fear this is just going to pour more gasoline on their fires to keep this thing going for years. It hardly matters who did it and why. It's just an excuse to achieve a political end. When the truth is, if it was terrorists, well, they didn't need no stinking war as an excuse. They'd have done it anyway. They're terrorists. It's what they do.

69. But unlike the blivet,
I believe that deep down, ol' Tony has a conscience. And the Brits are far more prudent in measuring their responses. I'm feeling that Blair is probably struggling deeply with what he got his country into, and wondering if there's a way to get the hell out.

At least, I certainly hope so.

I am still P.O.ed @ his co worker smirking and laughing as
the Iraq war started ..... "You don't understand about our technologies."

112. yes, there are fumes. I only visited a few times, but every
time I was there it was pretty bad. One of the scientists claimed it was brackish water (they're right next to the Potomac) but I think they've got a few interesting chemistry experiments going on. Nothing black; it's not that sort of lab, but I actively avoided the place when I was pregnant.

They're the snobs of the military science labs so I'm not surprised you can't convince them of anything -- they are far worse than many academics I've met when it comes to Not Invented Here. My boss had a bunch of 'em in a come-to-Jesus meeting once with a group from another military lab and the two groups got into a huge pissing contest. They got so out of hand, she took out a whiteboard marker and threatened to put a dots on the noses of anybody who spoke out of turn. I seem to recall that the Navy collected three and the Army got 2 before they wised up.

mistake in US history ...... i still have a standing offer to meet him again

Although one funny thing NRL is a hot bed for Lime disease ..... fenced
green space ..... deer no predators or hunting ..... ticks ..... bingo
Lime City ..... my brother got it and so does 1/3 of the people @ NRL .....

funny they can figure away to kill millions but shooting deer on their

today and heard I left it on in the background. A lot of stories on how not ready we are mass transit wise. Another blivet failure in my eyes. Not sure which channel it was on that talked about regular random dogs and cops at different stops. To do it often etc just not at any one place on a regular schedule to at least make anyone wanting to do anything have to work harder at it.

Also after today and the power outage in NYC I think if I lived or worked in a big city I would keep a motorized scooter at work in case everything was shut down.

I also stayed away from GD after seeing Crispi's warning.

people might actually have to DO IT. They might have to HIRE MORE PEOPLE. It might TAKE MORE TIME and SLOW THINGS DOWN.

No, no, much better to convince everyone of your vigilance by taking away Granny's embroidery scissors and forcing mothers to drink their own pumped breast milk to prove it's not some explosive chemical or something they're trying to smuggle onto the plane.

70. Small notes...
...the "power outage in NYC" was actually way, way bigger than NYC (even if NYC was all you ever saw of it on your TVs). Yeah, the visuals of that one reminded me of 9/11 too, with all those people walking home across bridges. But I was in upstate NY at the time and my power was not out for as long as my sisters' in Ohio was. Don't forget, Ohio was to blame for that little catastrophe too. That's where it started. Some bozos trimming trees near Akron somewhere.

As for security failures and preparedness...I came to a conclusion long ago that most security measures are designed primarily to provide the illusion of security, nothing else. They are unevenly and whimsically enforced.

Look at this orange alert...as if it helps anything anyway...at first it was ONLY for trains and subways. Not buses. DUH...A BUS GOT HIT...what, don't buses count unless they are double decker?? Then buses got added. But not planes. No airlines. Hello, McFly...what did terrorists use to conduct what has so far been the most successful attack on American soil? DINGDINGDINGDING!!!! And don't tell me airport security is so stepped up now that we no longer have to worry. Yeah, you can take matches on a plane like the shoe bomber did, but your granny can't take her embroidery scissors...that's security.

82. Hi Berry
I know it wasn't only NYC (luckily I was in FL at the time though it did not hit here I am told) but it was watching people try to get out of NY that made me think of the motorized scooter. Then again today in London listening to them talk about walking miles and miles. There is a kid rides one all over the place here, and it folds small. Perfect for the office so a person can get home to take care of their family, be it human or furbabies.

On the rest, only so much can be done though it is not getting done yet and the money given toward protection has been wasted. We can do better. But at the same time, the chances of being killed by a car, lightening etc. are so much higher than from a terrorist attack. Not to minimize an attack but perspective is a good thing to keep in mind. My heart goes out to those in Great Briton.

made sense to them. As a dad I think often of what my
response would be if I was an Iraqi and a western bomb

Bottom line(s)

2. this evil act will be used and spun by bush to give him
more time and money and troops to continue in his failed

3. If your heart does not go out to London now you do not

113. For me, no...terrorism would never be a way to fight back.
But then again, I have been raised with different values.

If my family was killed by some serial killer and I knew it, but somehow the guy was never caught and punished, I wouldn't try to go hunt him down and get vigilante justice. The thought might be tempting, but I would not pursue it.

I agree, the bliv does not have his eye in the right place. But if what happened had been prevented from happening, I think it would only have been because the tools could have been in place to stop it. Preventing the crackpot behavior in the first place would have been a lot harder.

And I cannot lay blame for 9/11 solely at the feet of the "bastards who hounded Clinton for a BJ." Bastards though they were, they were not the ones who hijacked and flew those planes.

I still believe we are all ultimately responsible for how we respond to the circumstances of our lives...as unhappy as we may find them to be. No matter how bad off we feel we are or who is to blame, no one forces us to use these kinds of tactics, either to attempt to get our way or to express our rage. If people choose to do that, they are the ones responsible...and the politicians are responsible only for not attempting to stop it. Yes, they could do a better job of trying to make a better world for everyone and not just the rich, privileged people living in certain parts of it...but they are still not the ones to blame first when certain well-funded parties commit acts of terrorism allegedly in the name of the un-rich and un-privileged. There is no "if" about that.

119. actually... a serial killer? I might.
Not at first. Not in the heat of the moment, when my emotions were extremely high. But after a little time had passed and I'd thought about it, if I were truly and rationally convinced that this was the guy, if others less emotionally involved than myself had just cause to believe it was the guy and the system wasn't going to get him for some reason, and I no longer had a child to take care of, I might execute a serial killer because those crazy fuckers don't stop. But I'd also expect to go to jail and would plead guilty.

84. On justification,
looking at why someone might do something is different from justifying it. Weird just had a justification conversation with the hub on the phone about the Fristians, Blivets et all. "They" do not justify anything, they feel they have the right, obligation, reason to do what they believe is the right thing, whether it is invading a country because (pick you choice of the 100 plus reasons given for Iraq) it is right/needed/get even or commit a terrorist attack because it is right/needed/get even. There is no justification, period. To try to look below the surface and find out the reasoning behind an act is a first step toward learning how to defuse a situation. Causing more pain and suffering world wide is not going to defuse anything. Someone has to be the first to say stop, lets go about this a different way. It used to be US.

101. I have no problem with looking at why.
What I have a problem with is pointing the blame at ourselves first.

We are no more responsible for this than we were for 9/11.

I do agree we have to figure out whether there IS a way to defuse anything, and a way not to make it all escalate.

I was just having a laugh on the whole extended joke that whoever interviews Mary will inevitably end up in the sack with her (as we were joking re Keith). Yeah, as if...

But this reminded me that Keith never did get back to telling us about his "eight private minutes" with her, or why he thinks she's smarter than she lets on. Perhaps he didn't find her all that memorable as a guest, in the end! Either that or he was too busy thinking about baseball and Watergate...

98. Thank you
and like I said you gave me the idea. I was wishing I had a better hug for you earlier.

Make sure you let me/us know when you hear something on the family. Us as you know the rest will be reading tomorrow and want to know.

102. See, Crispi's with me.
And for the record, the shirt reads blue on my screen and the tie is a purplish blue.

105. Ok, now that's weird because on my screen the tie looked
more blue and WHITE. Like it was small blue and white boxes or something.

122. Actually, on second thought, there may be a small white check in it.
I believe he's wearing the same tie in one of the screen caps on Olbermann.org.

107. so funny you should say that
because when they got to the clip of blivet**, my husband said, "Look, Bush is wearing the same ugly suit Keith's got!" Talk about training...

The suit does look much better, colorwise, with this shirt/tie combo, but still doesn't seem to fit well.

115. No, it fits on him like a big ol' sack. Or a zoot suit or something.
Oh well, I look at it like this...Keith's occasional fashion faux pas are God's way of reassuring the gals that despite being 46 and never married, he really IS straight.

What can I say? We need the laugh. Even if it's a weak one...
