1. Hi Pats. I loved Majel. Probably my fave ST:TNG character.
As to the new pastor-gate, oy. This isn't fun.

4. I hate it. I hate the nastiness that has taken over DU.
:hi: And I dearly wish Obama had not done it. I do think it was the wrong decision, and I'm going to say so, FWIW. Because I like to think Obama would at least listen if enough of us make it clear that we don't like this.

We need to keep pushing.

At the same time, I am disgusted by the atheist contingent at DU who regard all people of faith as the Enemy.

8. It really is a mess, isn't it, Berry?
I also wish he hadn't done it, and I agree that pushing is the thing to do.

But convening the circular firing squad once again? Oh boy.

It's not just the atheist contingent. I've seen straight people being accused of being homophobic for nothing more than offering a different opinion (that said absolutely nothing about denying someone their rights). I've seen the straight contingent tell the GLBT contingent to get over themselves.

It's all out war.

16. Yeah, that too. Because if you disagree with some people, you're a bigot.
And if you're GBLT and you're tired of being patient and waiting for your rights and you say so, you're a drama queen.

Oh man.

12. I hear you
I've gotten to the point where I put anyone who professes to be atheist on ignore. I just can't stand their temper tantrums & immature antics on religious threads.

As for Warren, well, I'm so fucking tired of all the hair-rending & banshee-wailing about Obama's other picks. I just don't have time to keep up with all this "OUTRAGE!!!!!1111" shit.

5. Probably hiding from the flying slings and arrows.
I'm telling you, it's getting downright stoopud in GD and GD-P. I'm not talking about the genuine outrage that many members have; I'm none too happy about the pick myself. But I responded in a thread where someone wanted to know who else so controversial had been picked to give the invocation, and I responded with Franklin Graham.

The person shot back, Yeah, what's your point!!?

Huh?

Um, I was answering a question.

18. Oh, I know
I haven't commented on even one of those threads. I refuse to get into the middle of it. I really do see both sides. Even though I think it was a mistake, I think in the big scheme of things, it's not going to affect anything beyond the inauguration. It's not as though he was named to a cabinet post or anything.

I couldn't help myself. Someone was screaming about how insulting it was that Warren was going to administer the oath of office. I commented that apparently he had become Chief Justice while we were sleeping.

Oy vey. 72 threads, in GDP, in one night, just on the front page, and that wasn't all of them. DU is just fighting to fight at this point. I think they've all lost their respective plots by now.

31. I won't say it in GD, but I think this victory has turned us into "Inauguration-Zillas,"
the Dem equivalent of a Bridezilla.

We want EVERYTHING about this inauguration to be perfect, some of us...not a single guest of which we disapprove, no words spoken that we might not like, just the right outfits, just the right people participating, and if we don't get our way on every detail, we are ready to throw a fit. Because everything is so SYMBOLIC, doncha know???????

We are like brides who don't care nearly as much about the marriage as we do about the WEDDING.

49. I can tell you, as much as I look forward to having Obama in the White House,
I am NOT looking forward to what DU becomes after it happens.

Just call it "Will Success Spoil DU?"

I'm afraid it will. We're much better at being underdogs than winners. We can't handle victory. We are much more used to being losers. Then, we can all hang together and rail at The Powers That Be. Give us a victory, and we squabble to death over how to deal with it. Like a bunch of poor people who went in together on a lottery ticket and won. Now we have to figure out how to spend the jackpot, and all we can do is fight, fight, fight.

I'm sure some will, and I don't say that to diminish anyone who is genuinely hurt by this.

But I was commenting in a thread today where many of the faux-outragers couldn't remember that Franklin Graham gave the invocation in 2001. He's not exactly a best friend to the GLBT community.

The incoming administration in 2001 didn't even pretend to be GLBT, so no one paid any attention to the fact that Graham wasn't either.

You'd think it was a violation of civil rights, rather than a store looking out for their own welfare.

Now, if BB was strip searching people leaving the store, that would be another issue altogether, but they aren't.

108. Yeah, but my point was that of all the bandwidth-hogging DU topics out there,
Sarah Palin was the only one who actually could have been our vice president (and perhaps our president)--and if SHE were ever inaugurated, the clergy she'd have at HER inaugural would make Rick Warren look like the Pope.

We could be looking at the first inauguration ever to feature a Driving Out of the Witches ceremony.

Randi had a great conversation with Mitchell Gold on her show today about this. He talked about how Warren causes such trauma to teens discovering they are gay. It was the best discussion I've heard (or read) on the subject.

40. Don't get me wrong, I sincerely hope Obama gets enough pressure that he changes his plans.
And I am glad Keith led with the story tonight and gave it such balanced coverage. He let the guy who thinks "Warren = reaching across the aisle" have his say, and also the guy who believes "You don't reach across the aisle to be inclusive to bigots" say his. (I sense he leans toward the latter point of view.)

At the same time, I'm glad he's covering other important issues, including having John Dean on (thanks for the KOOS, John :loveya: ) to talk about putting Bushco on trial, and the continued whitewashing by Bush of his record--which Keith is NOT going to let him get away with.

I was listening to either Randi or Rachel's radio show today, and someone on there said that if Obama tells Warren he can't come, that would create a whole other backlash, but if Warren himself bowed out, that would be the best conclusion to this fiasco.

Maybe some folks from Obama's transition team, or some people from Congress, should sneak on over to Warren's place and have a little heart-to-heart with him.

Oh, never mind. That would come out, and things would get even worse, if that were possible.

Bush considering "orderly" auto bankruptcy
By JENNIFER LOVEN – 1 hour ago
WASHINGTON (AP) —

The Bush administration is seriously considering "orderly" bankruptcy as a way of dealing with the desperately ailing U.S. auto industry.

White House press secretary Dana Perino said Thursday, "There's an orderly way to do bankruptcies that provides for more of a soft landing. I think that's what we would be talking about."

President George W. Bush, asked about an auto rescue plan during an appearance before a private group, said he hadn't decided what he would do.

But he, like Perino, spoke of the idea of bankruptcies organized by the federal government as a possible way to go.

"Under normal circumstances, no question bankruptcy court is the best way to work through credit and debt and restructuring," he said during a speech and question-and-answer session at the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative Washington think tank. "These aren't normal circumstances. That's the problem."

Even better, tonight was a two-fer--he did Cheney too.

The only bad thing was that they didn't have the camera on him so I could see how he screws up his face and talks out one side of his mouth. I lose it when I see that.

But he made up for that with his "The New Shoe Revue" comment.

Oh dear, Keith was getting delirious there toward the end! He said he didn't even know why he made the mustache comment! Must be high on cold medication!

I'm still waiting for him to say "Santy" at least once this season. It's not the holidays until Keith says "Santy" at least once.

I didn't realize he ducked a shoe himself while on the air. Too funny!
