The intolerance for religion on DU is beginning to get to me again.
I made the mistake of wandering into, and posting on, a thread in which people were not only congratulating each other on how they didn't believe in any silly religious nonsense, but stating their belief that religion should be prohibited by law, in favor of "reason." Because, you know, people do all sorts of evil things in the name of religion (no shit, and they also do a lot of good things), and none of those bad things would happen if people were prohibited from having foolish and unreasonable beliefs.
I made the mistake of bringing up the First Amendment and what it said about freedom of religion.
Suffice it to say, these people don't think freedom of religion should be enshrined in the First Amendment. They want to chop that part out and do away with it. Either that, or they just didn't get what the First Amendment had to do with the eminently sensible idea that if you prohibited people by law from expressing a belief in a silly nonexistent sky-daddy, they would stop staging wars and stealing from the poor and beheading women in the name of their belief in the silly nonexistent sky-daddy.
I gave up.
