Update on the murder in my apartment complex...
Yup, I earned my "worst day in the world" today...

I was questioned by the police as I was driving out of my apartment building this morning, about any suspicious activity in the neighborhood. I found out on my bus ride in (and on our local news website) that a guy who was stopped for robbing the grocery store next to my home had murdered someone in my building.

After I got home, I went to the managers to see what the hell happened, and how this guy got in. Evidently he was staying with one of the tenants here (who had a drug problem, we found out). Because he had access to the building, he came in the unit, shot him, stole his car, and left. Ya know what's scary? At the time this happened, I was awake and planning to go the gym to work out. If I'd left when I planned, I'd probably be dead. Literally.

Of course, the manager is frustrated, and the other male tenant that was down there was saying "well, I live three doors down, and I'm not scared." I lost it and stormed out of there. I'm paying $850 a month in rent, and in the two years I've been here, (1) my car stereo got ripped off in our so-called "secure" garage, (2) two cars got stolen, and now this. Needless to say, I won't be renewing my lease.

Thanks to those of you who've expressed concern. It's just hitting me now what really happend. I'm scared...

1. Wow.
Is there anywhere you could stay tonight? Is the penalty to break your lease very large? Sorry to hear about all of this.

4. Jeez. I think it is time for you to go.
I knew when I got burglarized twice (by, I am sure, a teenage delinquent relative of one of the people in the family who owned the house I was renting part of) that it was time to go.

Always scary to feel forced out. Good luck to you in finding something soon.
