Well, at least it's nearly big enough for the both of us. She seems like she's related to the "He's an Arab" lady.

And I'm so glad Keith brought up the racism aspect of all this crap. I think that it's the bottom line motivator to what is going on.

31. Oh good grief! Violence at Tampa Townhall Meeting
Per TPM:

The early reports are sketchy. But apparently a mob of teabaggers began to riot after some were not able to get into a townhall meeting in Tampa.

"As the building filled to capacity, angry protesters stuck outside began to scream, yell, and chant," reports local TV channel 10 in Tampa. "At one point, those trying to get inside began banging on windows as Tampa Police officers quickly spread out guarding all entrances."

A reporter currently inside the venue says at least one fist fight has already broken out.

Late Update: The event was hosted by Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL).

Later Update: We're getting overlapping reports. The Tampa Tribune reports to instances of "shoving and scuffles." It seems like at least one incident occurred in cases where teabaggers trying to force their way through the doors after event organizers manning the door were no longer letting more people in.

Anyone need any garden work done?

Wow, Keith sure isn't talking like a guy who has been muzzled from talking about Bill O'Reilly, is he? I was actually going to say, perhaps his earlier situation could be explained quite easily--i.e., when he was ordered to stop talking about Billo, he did, then started laying into Glenn Beck instead (effectively saying "I'm going to get around any crap you come up with one way or another"). But now he's punching back at Billo with impunity.

I wonder what Glenn Greenwald has to say about this.

55. Here's how I think this went down:
The VP's kept getting calls, every single day, from the other side, bitching about the fighting. They got sick of it. They met and the outcome of the meeting was: unless the other guy does something monumental, could we agree to lay off this for a while? It's getting old, and I can't get anything done over here because these two won't stop poking each other with sticks -- now my boss is on my case about it. After the two VPs made an agreement to talk to their guy and get this to stop, MSNBC went to KO, FOX went to Billo, and they said, "Enough already. I spoke to the other side, we both think it's time for you two to cut out the junior high school crap and move on to new enemies."

I don't believe there was ever a threat of being fired. I believe if this had made him question the freedom he had in his editorial decisions he would have walked -- right over to Yankee Stadium where he'd be staying permanently.

The story got out that the two corporations had a conversation about this. It's in the NYT.

I believe KO decided to stop (as long as Billo didn't kill somebody), perhaps with the network's wishes in mind, but more likely he looked at it and realized how ridiculous this "feud" really was. It was a pissing contest, not real news. Let's face it, Keith was a little obsessed with Bill. I noticed it, you noticed it, it's been quantified. He named him WPITW so many times, it should be named after him. After his diatribe about what he said about Tiller, Billo did, after all, cease to be funny. (It's always fun until someone dies.) There were also (according to those articles) two times they did mention each other after the "edict". What happened to them then? Right... nothing.

I guess what I'm saying is that I don't think this is as nefarious as the reporters are making it out to be. I understand I'm supposed to be all concerned about the corporate silencing and the threats to freedom of the press and the END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT, but I do believe that if this was as severe as Greenwald, and the NYT, and Sirota are making this out to be, KO wouldn't just take the money and be a good company man. He has enough money already; I think he'd be watching baseball professionally.

Frankly, for whatever reason it happened, I'm glad of it. Aside from the few times there was really news about Billo (like the producer ambushes) most of it was just stupid things he said. There's plenty of other stupid out there to report on, it's not like he was giving up something of substance, if he even gave up anything at all (as they loudly proclaim he did).

Also, the idea that now he had to "prove" he wasn't muzzled by speaking out about it is dumb. If you mention Keith on the front page of the NYT, he's going to talk about it, no matter who is in the story with him.

Go on Glenn Greenwald, compliment me on my "extreme amounts of mental effort" as I "cling to the notion that Olbermann wasn't muzzled by GE".

48. Bringing it all full circle:
Edited on Thu Aug-06-09 07:53 PM by Patsy Stone
Ben Stein's character in John Hughes' Ferris Bueller's Day Off talked about the Laffer Curve during his scene.

"Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Curve. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve, you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as at this point. This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something-d-o-o economics. "Voodoo" economics."

Synchronicity.
