2. I'm planning to go.
Just trying to figure out how I'm going to get there. I'd like to try to avoid the bus, as it's driving all night, going to the rally and then driving all night again. It's my last resort if nothing else pans out, but I'd like to stay and be able to attend the DU events that are scheduled. I'm trying to work something out with a few local DUers. Maybe I can convince them to drive, share expenses and share a room. I'm waiting to hear from them. One way or the other, though, I'm planning to be there.

4. Try expedia.com !
I'm travelling with another DUer, and booking together saved us $$$. In fact we added a third night because it was like free flight. We're staying at a hotel at DCA (Reagan National) which has it's own metro station.

Also, I noticed http://unitedforpeace.org/ride.php

Last time I took a bus long distance (Norfolk to Ft Laouderdale), it was quite comfy. I think by law, buses have to stop every two hours for 15 minutes, so you get to stretch your legs, take a potty break and grab some snacks. (my son's twins were born during an ice storm here, planes and trains shut down, wasn't going to drive alone that distance, and Greyhound was the only thing running outta here for several days! I just couldn't wait!!!).

5. United for Peace is the bus I know about
It's leaving Detroit at 9 pm Friday and coming back Saturday night. Not my cup of tea, but I'll do it if I have to. I see NWA has a new special going -- $69 each way, I think, a bit more to travel on Friday and Sunday. Where are you staying at DCA and how much is the room?

I'm not sure I can convince the other DUers I'm hoping to go with to fly, but maybe with these special fares we've got a shot. They're only good until the 12th, though, so we need to move quickly. Maybe I'll check it out.

Thanks, Catch. Hope to meet you there one way or another.

6. Not sure what your budget is.....
Edited on Sun Aug-07-05 07:30 PM by Catchawave
looks like you can do it for well under 400 (air/hotel) ? DCA/Crystal City area hotel. Sounds great, since I'm paying 300 and that's only from Norfolk :wow:

9. The Crystal City hotels looked okay pricewise
I'm just trying to get other people to commit. I really don't want to go alone -- I don't mind flying alone, but don't want to be totally on my own once I get there. Which Crystal City hotel are you staying at? (PM me if you don't want to post it.) I think I looked at the Ramada or the Marriott or both.

If I'm going to fly, I want to get it booked this week before the fares go back up. Great prices right now.

11. Main discussion and planning are in
the DC state forum, which Lynnesin has hijacked for the most comprehensive planning of DU events (aks parties!), travel, hotels, hostels, share rides/rooms, etc. Whew.

Welcome home Crispi :hi:

13. *Kick*
I think I saw some yes's and maybe's on other KOEB threads, but damned if I can find them!

So have you all visted the DC Forum threads and Brainshrub's dedicated website yet?

I already RSVP'd for the Capitol Lounge party, because we'll get in early enough to negotiate the Metro !

14. I know you aren't going for fun
but if anyone has the time, money, and inclination, the Capital Steps does musical political satire and they're usually quite funny.
