Some days are harder than others.
Tomorrow (Wednesday), my Dad will move to the nursing home. He requires more care than they can give him, and put him on a "wait list" last Friday. I asked if there were any private rooms available, and was told they were VERY hard to get, and it would probably take a very long time. Yesterday, I was told a) a room was available and b) it was a private room. So I went to see it... would you believe it is right next door to the room my mother had on the third floor? I swear I could hear my mom laughing in delight.

This is all moving so fast, but because all the doors opened quickly, it feels like the right thing to do. So, I'll be back sometime in the future - for the next several days, I'll probably be hanging out with dad, helping him to adjust, and assuring him that everything's OK. If you're so inclined, please pray or light a candle or whatever that this all goes smoothly.

And, most of all, thanks for being my friends. I love you all dearly!

Ruth

PS - A local young soldier from here (class of 2007) was killed in Afghanistan yesterday. The town is in grief, too.

Hang in there. We'll be watching for your return.

And I hope your dad will be comfortable.

6. Rev, you know you and your dad (and the family of that soldier) have all my best wishes and prayers.
It is sounding as if this is what was meant for your dad and for you.

Take care, and when you are done settling him in, please let us know and I will call you.

9. I can't tell you how beautiful his room is!!
It looks so much like his last apartment, he's already adjusting well!!

The move went very well, the housekeeping and maintenance staff took care of everything, and all I had to do was to bring Dad over to the old building. (but as he got out of the car and grabbed the walker, unfortunately his pants fell down. He looks at me and says "I feel a draft." :) ) Once he got in the room, he settled in pretty well. He went for his chair, rather than the bed, and stayed awake all the way through lunch. He ate a good meal, and when I left at 2 pm, he was dozing lightly in his comfy chair.

I'm staying home tonight because I've got a little "stomach flu" going on, and don't want to spread it to others. :hurts:
That, and I'm pooped... figuratively AND literally!

Thanks, hon... I'll look forward to talking to you later this week.

21. So sorry for the late response, Rev
I haven't been around much and this is the first I've seen this. Been busy with the kitchen
every night.

My thoughts are with you and your dad. Sounds like he's in good hands. Take care of him and yourself. Well
see you when you get back to us.

22. Thank you, Sharon!
He's doing better, but still has his ups and downs. Today, all he wanted to do was sleep.

How does the kitchen look? That sounds like such a fun project, and you get to live with the results every day.
Oh, and go ahead and spend the extra money - otherwise, you'll look back and say "we should have done that instead." Besides, you get your investment back whenever you sell down the road. :)
