Some days I even wonder if I belong here
or if the crazies are taking over.

Take this thread for example: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=7690398&mesg_id=7690398

In a nutshell, one of the Fort Hood shooting survivors said in an interview that she "thanks" the shooter & because of the shooting, she met someone she married, so it was a blessing in disguise.

One would think people on DU would be glad that she (a) survived & (b) is not so full of hatred towards Muslims she wants to kill them all, but NO! She's selfish! She's a fucking moron! She's crazy & not dealing with the situation in a "normal" way! :wtf:

I guess these folks would be happier if she had died or if she felt so badly about what happened to her, that she put a bullet through her head.

:banghead:

1. Do as I would
or STFU. The Moral Majority has many faces and, as I can tell, it's not confined to the Republican party.

One thing I do know, you belong right here.

2. The article was stupidly written.
It implied that this woman was grateful to the shooter, that she was actively thanking him for what he did, rather than what has obviously happened: She has come to terms with what happened to her, realized that it can't be UNdone and that it had an unexpected positive side for her, and accepted this and is moving on with her life rather than getting "stuck." No value judgment of others or how they are handling it, or assumption that the event itself was a happy or good thing, seems to be coming from her.

The writer of the article, however, twisted this story for effect, making it sound as if she's jumping up and down for joy about the shootings and as if she's thrilled that the traumatic event took place because things turned out all right for HER, and is actively thanking the shooter for having made it all possible.

I can't blame people for being pissed at that. But they should be pissed at the idiotic writer, not the subject.
