32. This whole thing reminds me of that saying "Caesar's wife must be above reproach."

As in, if you have even the slightest HINT of accusation leveled against you, even by known liars and troublemakers, we will throw you under the bus without giving you a chance to defend yourself. It's so wrong.

I am sorry to say it reminds me of my mother's attitude toward her children. God rest her soul, but despite teaching us right from wrong, she never began with the assumption that an accusation someone might make against any of us was wrong until proven to have substance. Instead, she assumed it was true until we could prove otherwise. She always assumed that if someone else accused us of wrongdoing and we denied it, we were just lying to save our own skins. It took a great deal of proof before she would finally believe us innocent. And the fact that she disbelieved us right off the top--at least when it came to me, because I was always a good kid--HURT. It wounded me to the core to have her suspect me of the worst just because someone else pointed a finger at me to save THEIR own skin.

34. Sucks, doesn't it? I was fired from a job after I was accused

of lying about my professional credentials. I did no such thing, and I could prove it, with backup from another person, but the employer didn't want to hear anything about it. They had made up their minds that I was a liar, so I was out on my ass.
