I'm not being smart, just asking. Since McConnell announced that the top priority was making sure of it, and you're echoing that, I'm wondering if your view is we should just give up.

Me, I think the problem is the Senate power structure, filibuster; the free spending in campaigns (Thank you, five members of the Supreme Court :grr:); and of course the media. Senators hold up things for months or years because they can.

The thing is, I remember when the Democrats lost the House and the Senate in 1994 and people were saying Clinton would be in, in effect, a lame-duck president (the media, God love them, had already speculated "Just another failed president?" by spring 1993).

In the big scheme of things, presidencies are messy affairs (pun not intended), and I think several of the worst things progressives and liberals can do now are exactly what I see a lot of on DU -- all-or-nothing thinking, catastrophizing, leaping to conclusions, etc. Life is stressful enough without beating yourself into a state of despair.
