I've already said it in at least one other thread, but this is the way it is:

We have seen our new Edward R. Murrow. And his name is Keith Olbermann.

I haven't felt this way about sitting in front of a TV screen watching a news commentator since first seeing a recording of Murrow's "See It Now" commentary on Joe McCarthy.

It was THAT incredible. THAT stunning. THAT amazing a moment of television. So brave, so truthful, that it was well worth the time it took him to finally say it.

If he doesn't blog it tonight, I will transcribe it and post it for all to see. If you thought his tirade against smoking was something...well, tonight his barely contained anger, sarcasm and outrage (and sadness) blew even THAT one out of the water.

I did note that this time, he did his ranting well before the end of the show...maybe that was intentional, so that no one could come running in screaming at him right after the fact this time around...not if they wanted a finished show.

But yes, I did see his eyes at the end, looking as if they were ready to water up. Yeah. After what you just showed, Keith...and what you just had to say about it...me, too. :cry:

I wanted to take this opportunity to commend one of your anchors, Keith Olbermann, for the editorial segment in tonight's episode of Countdown. First, because he warned us he was about to jump off the editorial deep end, something many alleged "news anchors" fail to do. Second, because his remarks constituted the most concise summary I've seen of the mismanagement that has sadly characterized too much of the rescue/relief effort for Hurricane Katrina. I live in Houston, Texas, which was awash in hurricane evacuees even before Katrina made landfall. You cannot imagine the frustration and incredulity that existed here last week, as day after day went by, and seemingly nothing was done, and no one would let ordinary citizens into New Orleans to help. I believe Keith's editorial tonight gave voice to a lot of the confusion and rage and betrayal that ordinary Americans have been feeling for the past week: why weren't we allowed to help? Why wasn't the government helping them? When the next disaster happens, will the government help me right away, or are they going to wait for the photo op?

I also noticed that Mr. Chertoff called the city of New Orleans Louisiana and didn't correct himself. I just shook my head and thought that his flub is just symbolic of the whole mess revolving around the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

I want to thank you for your editorial. You said everything that I have thought and said for over a week now. How can these people ever hope to protect us from a terrorist attack if they can't even coordinate this disaster. The suffering of the people in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, but most especially the residents of New Orleans, is just too much to comprehend. I was sick to death by day 3 of the back slapping and praises being thrown around and all the while the citizens of New Orleans had no food, water or shelter--babies, the elderly and the sick were dying on the streets of their city. It was horrifying. I still can not fathom why rescue organizations were denied entry when just about every news organization was reporting from inside New Orleans. It boggles the mind.

Once again, thank you for speaking the truth. Something I feel is in short supply with this administration.

106. I don't think so.

I'm going to be doing this project 12-14 hours a day for the week or so and I really don't have the time to try and plan things. The thought of 1) trying to find a hotel, 2) trying to find a cheap plane ticket, 3) trying to figure out a way from the plane ticket to the hotel, and 4) doing this all by myself is completely overwhelming right now. If my friend from here were still going I'd be a bit more up for it, but as it is, I just don't have the mental energy to deal with it, and the idea of being in DC by myself is, to be perfectly honest, overwhelming and scary.

I can help w/all of that. I've done (1)& might have space for one more person & (2), (3) no biggie, take the metro, i'll even print off the pretty colored map w/directions for ya, (4) hold your hand & walk you through it. :)

108. I missed it all because of the misleading thread of yesterday.

My co-worker just came in and asked, "Did you see Keith last night?" I told him I thought it wasn't on.

So not only was I home and not watching Keith, I didn't even know to tape! BUGGER, BUGGER, BUGGER, BUGGER, BUGGER, BUGGER! :grr:

On edit: I understand Keith ripped the admin a few more orifices. BUGGER! I missed it.
