Keith stayed in for the last hour because he claimed to be worried about Dan's state of mind. Maybe that's why the show was so strange. He said he could stick around because he "had the night off" from his show--"Yeah, I'm working three hours Sunday."
Anyway, the story about Dan getting only hard-boiled uncolored eggs "and about seven jellybeans" in his Easter basket and throwing the eggs at the door was hilarious, with Keith putting him "on the couch" to talk about how this had affected him to the point where a story about someone else hitting someone's door with something was a fascination to him. Keith was going on about having spent so many years in therapy that he would soon be qualified for them to "take the lobster bib off me" and become a therapist himself. He also said he was lying on a couch when telling the story about the executive with his father's cologne-and-cigars smell. (Well, hey, I think we also got more insight from that not only into KO's dynamic with said executive, but into why he took up cigars in the first place...his grandpas smoked them, his dad smoked them...) I couldn't help but wonder..."He isn't referring to Rick Kaplan, is he?"
But everything kind of got mucked up by technology. About 45 minutes into the second hour, Keith was cut-off in mid-spiel by a commercial, and when they came back Dan was patched in on a phone line for some strange reason. (Obviously they were in different studios this time--Keith in NY and Dan in Bristol--but Keith was the one you could hear the most clearly and Dan was the one connected by phone.) At that point Keith asked if the technical problem might be cleared up if he signed off, and Dan said yes, so he signed off. It didn't solve the problem, though--for the whole last 15 minutes, Dan remained patched in on a phone line.
It's too bad I wasn't able to record the show today. This is the best I can do to tell what went on as far as non-sports talk went--I can't make a transcript and they don't publish any that I know of. I had to listen on the Web, and my listening was constantly interrupted by one work crisis after another so my attention was not there all the time.
on edit: They also talked for a while about high gas prices and how Dan is now driving a hybrid. Of course, Keith did not have a whole lot to contribute in the way of personal experience on this end of the conversation, so they moved on...
